Dengue Fever - Brazil - 2024 Outbreak |

SUMMARY - The country of Brazil is expecting an "enormous |
|
outbreak" of Dengue fever this season based upon what other |
|
nations in South America are experiencing so far. Dengue fever |
|
is a virus spread by mosquitoes. The southernmost states in |
|
Brazil are already experiencing high numbers of cases. Severe |
|
Dengue fever, if left untreated, has a 15% mortality rate, |
|
although typical mortality rates are between 2% and 5%. |

Dengue Fever - Brazil - 2024 cases have already surpassed 2023 |

SUMMARY - The country of Brazil has already recorded 1.6 million |
|
cases of Dengue Fever, a total which surpasses all of the |
|
reported cases in 2023. There are currently 491 deaths |
|
attributed to the virus and another 889 deaths being |
|
investigated to see if they were also caused by the virus. The |
|
government has responded to this wave of infections and deaths |
|
with a variety of methods, one of which being releasing |
|
mosquitoes infected with a bacteria that makes them resistant to |
|
infecting humans with the virus. |

SUMMARY - The country of Brazil has surpassed 4 million dengue |
|
fever cases. the total number of cases through the first four |
|
months of 2024 is 4,127,571. There have been 1,937 deaths from |
|
dengue fever and another 2,345 deaths under investigation. |
