INTRODUCTION TO THE NEW CKGB MIDLANDS REGION
By: Ian F Date: May 11, 2025, 2:20 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Hi all,
Over the past 12 months a few of us have been informally
chatting about the probability of setting up a Midlands Region,
and several members are interested in this.
The CKGB committee have also been working on the policy and
guidelines for setting up Regional groups and Stefan has been
taking the lead on this. This work is now in its final stages
and should hopefully be released soon. One important aspect is
the CKGB brand, which is now very well recognised and respected.
Consequently, the Region would be the "CKGB Midlands Region".
The format and aims of the Region would need to be discussed,
agreed and determined. Therefore, later in the year (possibly
at Malvern) we will have some sort of meeting to initiate
discussion. I imagine the topics/aims would be along the lines
of:
[li]Whether to organise and hold regional events (EG like the
informal events we have recently had at Stretton).
Whether to take on the management of events in our region (EG
Dragstalgia at Santa Pod).
Whether to have social meetings.
Whether to attend local car shows as static displays.[/li]
[li][/li]
I already have some possibilities for events, but will post
these as separate topics, so we have discussion on these via the
Forum.
Regional events are liable to be relatively small events with
possibly up to 20 drivers. I expect we would accept entries
from any CKGB member, but we may have to give priority to
members within the region (something else to discuss).
Anyhow, this is all in its infancy, but please lets hear your
thoughts by posting on this topic.
Best regards
Ian Fletcher

Im working with Ian to progress CKGB Midlands Region. We need
to try and get some discussion going to ensure that there is an
appetite for a regional sub-group.
We already have the benefit of Stretton Circuit here in
Leicester, they are always willing to accommodate us. Ive just
checked that if we wish to organise a social event at any time
the bar facilities and seating area are available to us (subject
to sufficient numbers). We can bring our own food or order-in.
But lets also identify alternative locations.
Some specific questions to help plan going forward

numbers will increase as more local members come on board.

technical discussion, without the opportunity to drive.

as an opportunity to include partners, family, friends. (The
Southwest is quite active socially as a group).

opportunity to drive. (This can still include a wider social
element if wished).

opportunity to drive their CK.

I think that this is a start, we can then look further into
venues to try and centralise and vary meet-ups.
Please share your thoughts so that the level of interest can be
gauged.
Ian and I will be at Brooklands and would welcome any additional
feedback.

How many members are actually interested at present. Hopefully
numbers will increase as more local members come on board.
I'm interested in a CKGB Midlands Region so is that three of us
so far?
Are any members interested in pure social meetings/builders
technical discussion, without the opportunity to drive.
I have been to a couple of the Northern builders meets during
the off season it was great to meet up for a coffee and a chat
when there wasn't much else going off at that time of year,
depending on shifts I would be happy to travel for a social meet
If members are interested in social meetings, do they see this
as an opportunity to include partners, family, friends. (The
Southwest is quite active socially as a group).
No reason not to include friends, partners in my view as without
their understanding and them putting up with us spending hours
in sheds and garages our Cyclekarts wouldn't get built
Alternatively, are members only interested if it includes the
opportunity to drive. (This can still include a wider social
element if wished).
I really like the Stretton Circuit days (now my trailer is built
I hope I wont miss out on another one) its a good mix of
driving, social time and piss taking spent with like minded
people.
Not really interested in social gatherings, just want more
opportunity to drive their CK.
I prefer to have a bit of a CK drive if I'm travelling to a meet
up but happy to meet in someone's workshop/ shed or stately home
if that's not possible. Think this type of thing is good to
keep in contact with each other especially when we aren't
meeting for events.
Does anybody already have some good ideas to share.
Not really.
I think its up to those in the midlands area to shout up on here
if interested so those putting in the effort to progress the
idea know its worth doing.
Who is going to be No4 to give their view?

First of all apologies, I hadn't commented here because I
thought Ian knew that I'm 100% up for a Midlands group after
speaking at stretton. My dad most likely included, but I'll let
him say his piece.
How many members are actually interested at present. Hopefully
numbers will increase as more local members come on board.
With me and my dad that makes five, I'm definitely the fourth
though. ;D

Im interested in social meetings but I fully understand most
would be in evenings and weekends so probably wouldn't suit me.
Off season id be happy for a trip out to workshops or similar to
talk Cyclekarts with a coffee. I'd also be happy to do static
displays at vintage rallies and car shows.
If members are interested in social meetings, do they see this
as an opportunity to include partners, family, friends. (The
Southwest is quite active socially as a group).
I completely agree with Granville that they should be included,
although with having 2 small children one of which is type 1
diabetic its probably unlikely Abi would get to come, and i
wouldn't want to put you lot through the trauma of my hurricanes
🤣.
Alternatively, are members only interested if it includes the
opportunity to drive. (This can still include a wider social
element if wished).
I'll jump at any chance to drive my cyclekart. Stretton is
great, and pretty hard to beat in terms of value.
Does anybody already have some good ideas to share.
I don't have any ideas but Im excited to see what you come up
with ;D

Thanks Graham for being the catalyst for the responses above ;D
Thanks to you all for your responses and I think we now have a
viable nucleus for a Midlands Group :D
Happy to hear more comments from yourselves and anyone else that
interested in a Midlands Region (you dont need to live in the
Midlands, but this is the location we would be promoting events
in).
As for ideas of other events, there is the Bubblecar Museum near
Boston PE22 7AW, which could be good for a visit, camping and
probably a small grass track.
https://www.bubblecarmuseum.co.uk/
There is also the Ramsey 40's site near Huntingdon, that is a
WW2 Searchlight headquarters with many of the original wartime
buildings. They also have a big 40's show there each year, plus
a car show on a different weekend. Good for a visit (with a
very good Rural Museum next door as well, plus camping at the
shows and maybe a grass track at the shows. We can also hire
the site when its not being used for the shows and can have
sprints on the concrete service roads through the buildings.

Absolutely agree that anybody who is interested in midland
events is included Ian, irrespective of home location.
What area are we targeting southwards before it begins to be
considered as a Southern region. It would help to identify a
central area to the Midlands region.

From a geographical and also a club historical perspective, I
think the epicentre of the Midlands Region should be Stretton
circuit.
If we are agreed on that, then initially we can include East
Anglia, maybe even Wales, then down to possibly to the M25?
However, with a view to the future and increasing membership,
this may spawn an East Anglian Region, a Wales (and borders)
Region, and the SE region may spread to above the M25.
The development of Regions within the club is still in its
infancy, and the committee are working on guidelines for
Regions, so Regions are currently in a state of flux.

Hello gentlemen, I'm up for any meets driving or just social,
building talk exchanging ideas and the like. I could not
guarantee I could make it to all but definitely interested, I
would say Oli and Dean would be able to do the same.
