Exiled

Prologue
My clan's safety and wellbeing is my charge, and it will always
be my priority no matter what. We used to be a happy and
welcoming clan. We used to be a tightly-knit community, which
provided shelter to children and adults alike. We used to say:
"The wind will always blow at our backs" as our short anthem.
Well, now it is blowing all around us, trapping us in the eye of
the vortex created by our own Lord's rage, sealing us away from
any kind of civilization, with no way to escape.
(Yes, I know this is a really short prologue ;A;)

[b]Chapter 1
Delta and I were peacefully walking along the clans borders,
chatting and watching our fellow clan members as they went on
with their day. Sometimes we saluted some, sometimes helping
some with their tasks. The sun was shining quite brightly, and a
cheerful breeze was blowing. It was overall a great day, and
everyone deemed quite giddy. Unless for Delta. Delta, usually
one of the happiest members of the clan, seemed quite
preoccupied. I asked her to follow me out of the borders, into a
quiet area where we could talk in peace, without disturbance
from other dragons. "Hey, Delta, are you alright? Your
expression seems quite dull."
She took a few minutes to respond:
"Grim, can I tell you something? I've been thinking about this
for a while, and I don't really think anyone else other than you
would understand."
"Why, of course you can! I'm here for you, Delta. You know I am.
What's on your mind?"
"I want to leave, and go work for the Windsinger."
I froze in shock, and opened my eyes as wide as possible. Delta,
the last person on Sornieth whom I thought would ask me to
exalt, was right in front of me, asking me exactly that. I
replied:
"W-wait. What about your son? His father disappeared long ago
and you're his only family left! How would he react?"
Delta's facial expression remained stern, not moving an inch.
She added:
"I have faith in our nurturers. They'll be able to take care of
him. Besides, he's almost mature enough to fend for himself, and
he's our lead Scavenger; I can't see why he would take this
badly. Please, Grim, please let me go."
Her face softened, and she took the most sorrowful expression I
have ever seen. Whatever purpose she wanted to take over there,
she took it seriously. I took a few minutes to think about it,
then replied:
"Fine. Delta, you may leave to serve for our Lord, the
Windsinger. May the wind always be at your back."
She instantly lit up, pulled me into a tight hug, and said:
"Really? Thank you so much, Grim!"
When she was done, she looked at the sky, murmured: "May the
wind always be at your backs", then flew away.
"Farewell, Delta." I muttered while watching her silhouette
disappear, then hurried back to our clan's territory.
