Pioneer 1074 transplant options.
By: pat.flynn Date: October 30, 2025, 10:50 pm

I found a Pioneer 1074 Chainsaw in my father-in-laws old shed
recently. It was manufactured in Canada in 1980 and is now about
45 years old.
I came across his daughter and I have been around his place
since 1995 but I never seen him use that chainsaw. I presume
that was because the ignition coil had failed and they were no
longer available. I tested the coil with a multimeter and its
dead. I had also tried it manually beforehand and it was
delivering no spark either when connected to the switch or when
disconnected from the switch.
Has anybody ever tried transplanting a coil from another make of
chainsaw into these things - even if it required a bit of
modification to make such a transplant and is there any point in
thinking about such a transplant? Have a great Halloween.

Read up about using heat aka baking them to bring some coils
back to life. Several guys have done it on chainsaw repair group
FB in threads on how to. The big CR group. Not the small copy
groups.

Info how he does the coils from his thread in my group. I seen
him bring back one on a stihl 088. How long they last yet to be
seen. But saved him a bunch on one of those in oem coil.
Smitty's
Here's a tech tip for folks that dont know... saws that sit for
long periods of time in damp area's or weather changes... alot
of times ignition coil issues are prone to happen, either not
work at all or work till saw warms up then quits... here is a
trick for ya's that I personally have had good results with
saving well over 50% of the coils doing this. Toaster oven 250
- 275 degrees for 2 to 3 hours. Laugh 😃 all ya
want...but if it works it works.
