| homelite SXLAO fuel tank | |
| By: countryhog Date: August 28, 2014, 10:04 am | |
| --------------------------------------------------------- | |
| fuel tank on my SXLAO sprang a leak. checked in to sealing the | |
| tank but looks like the cures would cost more than the saw. so, | |
| on to the second option - split the tank. | |
| not afraid to split the tank (been there, done that, but what a | |
| hassle) but before I do I was wondering does anyone have trouble | |
| getting it apart, acquiring new gasket, getting it to seal? | |
| anyone? thanks | |

| I've never split one. Would probably just replace the tank. | |
| They're quite common, and I've even seen NOS tanks listed on | |
| feebay for reasonable money. I've got at least one decent | |
| looking used spare one.... | |

| Not familiar with that model. But I did split a tank on a super | |
| wiz 66. And made my own gasket from a cereal box. If yours has | |
| the Philip head screws they can be a pain to get out. I ended | |
| drilling the heads off the ones I could not get out, and vice | |
| gripped the studs out. Have also found that you can dip the end | |
| of your Philips screwdriver in valve lapping compound and it | |
| helps to grip a sloppy Philips head. Hope this helps. | |

| just a belated update on this. turned out to be the grunged up | |
| check valve in the fuel cap. I never could get the thing to leak | |
| until once I tipped it up and it came pouring out of the cap. | |
| so, there ya be. | |

| I guess I'm a little late on this one too. I just finished | |
| fixing a leak on a Super XL auto. Took the screws out and split | |
| the tank (not hard to do) Got all the old sealer off. Used | |
| Permatex MotoSeal Ultimate Gasket Maker Grey according to | |
| directions on the tube. Filled it with gas, so far no leaks. | |
| I got the sealer at Oreilly auto parts. | |
