Yeah, the same thing happened after Rio. For a couple of days
there were no traces of Rafa on the internet :) Later, it turned
out he had some treatment done on his back. I would think he is
doing the same thing now. Perhaps waiting to see if Djokovic
wins Indian Wells, which will decrease their difference in
points in the rankings, before making the decision about Miami.

Rafa just posted a picture on Facebook that he is still
practicing in Indian Wells and is looking forward to Miami! I
know General Hercules is not going to like this decision but I
am ok with it, he can use more match practice and certainly win
some points back :)

I hear ya general Tee.
of course I am not happy about this. Miami is a bit more warm
and humid. it would be good for the back if he was there already
if he is going to compete at Miami masters.
I don't know what the hell he is still doing in indian wells.
anyway at this point I hope he loses quickly in Miami. if the
back gets worse he can say goodbye to his clay season and
perhaps the whole season.
that would be tragic beyond all belief.
a back that wont heal and actually gets worse can also end his
career. he is being really stupid about this.
he needs to get off the hard courts ASAP and go on home. to hell
with the points. go home and go get on clay fool. and save
yourself for the clay season where you have defend everything
under the sun.
also with respect to points, there will be plenty of
opportunities to grab a few extra points at Wimbledon.
to hell with the points anyway at this point. what good are they
if he cant play effectively.
he has to take RG and the U.S. Open. that means getting off the
hard courts right now and go fix that back.
he could not serve for 10 days after Rio. Rafa is playing with
fire. he better go home and take care of that back and then
slowly start training on clay for monte carlo.

I'm OK with it too. I don't want Rafa to lose too many points!

Well...
When you put it like that.
Darn, what to do, what to do?
I guess if you're thinking long-term, you're right. He can nab
some points at Wimbledon, but the first priority is to heal.

just remember that if that back goes in Miami, his season is
probably over.
and probably his career too.
back issues have ended quite a few careers in tennis.

I know. This is horrible. Why did this have to happen now?
Still, I think Rafa will overcome the odds. His trajectory is
just different.

fantastic stuff.
I am enjoying it all.
Rafa fans from around the globe will love all this as well.
we are starting to grow a little bit. readership and viewership
is going up significantly. our progress is quite dramatic
actually considering we are still relatively new and not really
all that well known.
and it is all because of you folks. you continue to add engaging
and fascinating content.
this is wonderful stuff. we all do this out of our immense love
and passion for our sport and for our players.
this is labor of love and it is so much fun to be able to share
with the others.

he could not serve for 10 days after Rio.
I saw some of his pics on the day he lost. even his pics going
into his practice session before the match suggested something
to me.
he looked almost distraught and dejected. and it was surely not
dolgopolov.
it was his back.
I will post some of those pics here tomorrow. he did not look
very happy.

Things will work out. They always do. I'm trying to stay
positive for the highs still to come.
