These posters or people that you talk of - they just might be
very young (very likely scenario) so they don't know any better
just yet or they are just simply stuck at their own belief
system. If they believe certain things to be true, for example,
their own likings based on their preference and therefore,
opinions, then no amount of reasoning or arguments is going to
work. These are all dogmatic attitude and no one other than
their own self will be able to resolve it but only through
experience. There's literally no other way. I would just leave
things at that.

Actually, many of them are not. That's the worst part. Many are
(according to them) in decent professions, have been watching
tennis for decades and write very intelligently.
The young people without a clue you can easily dismiss, but the
seasoned, intelligent posters who choose to troll, rather than
enlighten is a bit harder to take.
But, I am over it. Sometimes I think these forums are not about
tennis per se, but finding a voice, getting attention, and plain
trolling for the heck of it.

Some of them could be lying too since it's so easy to do it on
the internet where nobody would be able to track you down. But
it's also the nature of the sport, it's highly competitive and
bound to bring out the worst in people. In fact, I don't see
anyone who's truly and deeply intelligent taking part in any of
these discussions/arguments let alone trolling on any forum.
That would be a sharp contrast to what we call intelligence.
Another thing that factors in is the so called belief system.
If, say, a Federer fan or even a Nadal fan (I believe they'll
get there too) believes their player is the best player of all
time or the so called GOAT, then no amount of argument is going
to change their mind or see things otherwise - no matter what
you present in front of them. A belief system is that strong and
tend to be that blind, unfortunately.

Some could be lying, but some of them are very intelligent, to
me.
Intelligent people have foibles too.

IMO, only superficial intelligence has flaws. A truly
intelligent person wouldn't want to waste his or her time online
arguing about matters that are highly speculative. Because no
one is going to put those speculative matters to test and prove
it as true or false as it's not science. The matter of sport is
not a philosophical debate either.
A truly intelligent person is creative first and foremost;
therefore, I see him or her spending their time doing something
creative or thinking about it or just being - definitely not
arguing online about highly speculative matters that can never
be proven. It's fun yes, but it's also quite foolish and a
complete waste of time. Even if they do get involved just for
the sake of it, I still see them quitting while they are ahead
quickly realizing that they are wasting their precious time
arguing with people who will never change their mind no matter
what.

Also, true intelligence, like talent, is inborn. You are born
with it. Any other intelligence is improved upon and that's
called superficial intelligence. For example, there are artists,
players, actors, writers who are born with this natural talent
whereas others have to work really hard for it. Also a truly
intelligent person is almost always creative.

I had been looking for a desk forever. I had this one desk that
I didn't like very much and tried to replace it.
But, I couldn't find anything that fit my needs. All of the new
desks (unless I wanted to spend a fortune) were more like
workstations with virtually no storage.
I went to office discounter stores, furniture stores, etc. and
still I couldn't find anything that met my needs.
Then, one night I was helping my son take out the trash when I
noticed a desk that fit my needs in my garage. I have a friend
who takes old furniture and refinishes it. He gets stuff dirt
cheap and gives it a new look. He has furnished his entire house
this way. Now mind you, he used to take interior design, and his
house looks like a magazine layout.
Anyway, before he bought his house he used to store his finds in
my basement and garage. And after a few years of his castoffs
being downstairs I was walking by it and not paying it any
attention.
A month ago I noticed that this old desk had all of the storage
that I needed. So, I had it brought upstairs. It was an eyesore,
but it had great lines. I decided to try my hand and making it
over.
I finished it the other night. I sanded it down, painted it
almond white and bought some really cute knobs. It looks
fantastic! I am so proud of myself. I found a solution without
spending an arm and a leg and the storage is out of this world.

That's a lovely story, TT and very creative. You should upload a

too!

Alas, my creativity stops when it comes to technology. I have
not been able to post pictures like I used to. If I get that
straightened out though, I will.

tomorrow's high is 34 and then another low of 20 or so. and this
is gulf coast we are talking about.
of course it can always be a lot worse. it is probably -20 in
Detroit right now for example.
