lets at least get the ball rolling anyway. his 11 slams came
against these great players:
VILAS (Twice)
CONNORS (Twice)
MCENROE
LENDL
ORANTES
GERULAITUS
NASTASE
TANNER
PECCI
this is quite huge. every one of them is a slam winner except
for Gerulaitus and Pecci.
Johnny Mac was a multi slam winner. Connors was a multi slam
winner.
Lendl and Vilas were also multi slam winners.
so this was no easy competition. We all know how tough Nastase
was in his day. he was a world #1 also. and he too was a multi
slam winner. he won the French open and the u.s. open. he lost a
heartbreaker to stan smith at Wimbledon in 1972. that match went
the full distance.
of course he would lose to Borg at Wimbledon in 1976 in straight
sets. the third set was a bit close.
at any rate we will talk more about these victories and exactly
where and how they happened.
**he made a total of 16 appearances in slam finals and he took
home 11 titles. and he did it against the toughest competition
possible at the time.
