MS Windows sync - RANT warning!
By: walktall Date: June 16, 2015, 3:53 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Can you believe it:
[li]With XP I could sync my calendar and contacts to my mobile
with no issue at all ;D[/li]
[li]I move to Windows 8 and sync just doesn't want to talk to my
mobile - MS answer: buy a new mobile >:([/li]
[li]OK, my mobile is getting to end of life, so got a new shiny
mobile and what do I find, things have moved on and now you
can't sync directly with Outlook on my laptop but have to have
your calender and contacts out in the Cloud >:( >:( >:([/li]
For f**ks sake, what happened to what the customer needs and
uses -
arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
rrrrrr
>:(
I know I'm not alone in this, as I've been trying to find a way
to do it and found others who are just gob smacked that this
normal task seems to be very difficult, unless you have moved
all your info into the Cloud.
I wonder if GCHQ (& the like) has anything to do with this, all
that info in the Cloud for them to 'play' with ::)
PS I may have found a program to do it but it's not free :(

Yes, hopefully it'll be fixed in Windows 10 (yes, 10... they're
skipping 9 ::) )
As you say, it's not fair on the customer.
I've found that all these companies (Apple and Google too) are
encouraging people to use Cloud more and more as well. It does
have quite a few benefits. However, it's more money once you use
up the free storage, which puts some people off. Also, as you
say, syncing options should be available to everyone, including
those who don't wish to use it.
Hopefully you manage to sort it soon - it's shocking! :o

Yes, knew about skipping 9. 9 is an unlucky number in the far
east :o
Also noticed while looking into the replication issue, that
others were talking about being force by other providers to put
more data into the Cloud. It has real benefits and I do use
Cloud storage but they shouldn't force customers to use the
Cloud, as what seems to be happening :( There are those who will
never use the Cloud, either because: they don't feel the need,
just getting to complicated, cost or security.
I've decided with another issue, Memory Map works perfectly on
Windows v8.1 but does not work at all on mobile Windows v8.1, to
send the mobile back and get a refund :(
Looks like I'll be getting an Android mobile or just stick with
my old mobile and hope it lasts a bit longer (it's started to
play up) ::)

Oh, I didn't know that :o
Looks like they're superstitious :D.

Yes I agree with all of that, Cloud storage is good but it
shouldn't be forced!!
I wonder why it doesn't work on both? I think Windows 10 will
rectify that, if I remember correctly it'll be one OS across all
devices, whereas with Windows 8 I think there are slight
differences between mobile and desktop? You probably made the
right decision anyway :)
