Kudos to the community of Mackenzie, BC

We live east of Dawson Creek, BC and frequently enjoy Highway 97
over in B.C. A couple weeks ago we camped and kayaked at Heart
Lake and Azuzetta as usual. And took a notion to go a bit
further south to Mackenzie. The tourist info lady at Mackenzie
corner was very helpful alerting us to see the museum and use
the B.C. hydro campsite, which is free and free of reservations.
We went straight to the campsite, had lunch and a walk, then
headed into town leaving a couple of chairs and tablecloth to
indicate an occupied site.
As we drove in to an RV park at the south end of town to use the
sani dump, a guy came running out to tell me that our trailer
left brake light wasnt working. One of those ones that cant
be opened to change the bulb. The guy told me where to get a
replacement at NAPA. The sani dump was free and NAPA had an
exact replacement at a reasonable price. We had a fine take out
supper from the mall for a good price, too. Several nice lakes
for canoeing and kayaking nearby, though not as spectacular as
Azuzetta. Nice place to stop!
When we got back to our site, we noticed our chairs were gone.
The caretaker was enforcing the no reservations rule. He
stopped and told me our stuff was at the nearby wood pile. Just
a little upsetting but overall I was glad all the sites hadnt
been reserved one way or another.
