Injuries and other circumstances make it very difficult to get
to this point, these opportunities present themselves only so
often. Cubs need to get there bats going. Every game is a must
win from here on out.. One of the biggest disappointments thus
far (for me) is the lack of fire power from Rizzo and Bryant..

In Maddon we trust - maybe time for a visit from the magician?

With the Blackhawks, you could say we got em right where we want
em and they'd take the series. With the
Cubbies....well....there's always next season!

Agreed. Since the playoffs started, pretty much every bat
except Rizzo and Bryant has led the charge. Really hoping to
see our fortunes turn when we get back to Wrigley. Tomorrow is
not promised. I want it this year.

I hope they don't do what the NATs did when they finally made
the playoffs for the first time. They came out in Spring
Training and declared WS or Bust was their motto. They decided
they were a lock to make it with Strausburg coming back and all
the young pitching and hitting. Well bust it was and they
didn't even win the division.
I hope the Cubs are humble next year and think they have
something to prove.

Cubs got 37 year old Lackey...ok - hope he has some left in the
tank. Traded Castro for a 5th starter and a guy that won't
make the team...whatever - got rid of a big contract. Signed
34 year old Ben Zobrist...kind of old but gets on base and is
versatile.
Cubs just signed 26 year old Jason Heyward...oh my.
Madden didn't have much pressure last year - that's all changed.

Would love to see Clemson pull this out. Hate Alabama. The BS
trick kick helped pull them ahead. Don't like it when you gotta
pull out tricks to win.....just do not like Alabama....

Lovie Smith expected to become next head coach at Illinois

Two months after he was fired as head coach of the Buccaneers,
Lovie Smith is on the verge of getting another head-coaching
job.
Smith is expected to be named head coach at Illinois, CBS
Chicago and FOX Sports are reporting.
The Illinois football program has gone through a tumultuous
year: Coach Tim Beckman was fired just before the start of the
2015 season after he was accused of mistreating players. Interim
head coach Bill Cubit led the Illini to a 5-7 season and was
told at the end of the year that hed be permitted to keep the
job, but today new Illinois Athletic Director Josh Whitman fired
Cubit.
Now Smith, who knows the state well from his time as head coach
of the Bears, is poised to become the third Illinois head coach
in the last eight months. For the 57-year-old Smith, its
another opportunity to serve as a head coach after being fired
in his two previous jobs. But its an odd fit, as Smith hasnt
coached in college since he was the defensive backs coach at
Ohio State in 1995. And Smith has never been a college head
coach. Smith likely wouldnt take the Illinois job if he thought
he had a chance at another NFL job.

Me either, but he must have seen the handwriting on the wall.
His days as a HC in the NFL were over. We'll see where this
career change leads. I am not optimistic. He has never been
known as an offensive minded coach.
