Quilt stores

What is wrong with the owners of quilt stores??!! They hit their
70's and think it is time to retire! Okay, I'm joking, but the
second store I shop at is going to close because the owner
thinks that 75 is old enough to retire! I'm happy for her, but
now there won't be an independent quilt store anywhere near me.
On a happy note, she sold me lace for Barbie gowns at a rock
bottom price! 15 yards for $1.00! Color me happy! Also got two
more fabrics for the "book" quilt I'm making this summer. They
are both Babar the elephant fabrics. I may have to make more
than one quilt with all of the fabric I bought!

75?!! Gee, they retire earlier than that around here, you've
been lucky!!
And I know what you mean about over-buying one type of fabric.
Because you think you don't have enough yet. Then, suddenly, you
look at the pile and go Yikes! Seriously, I wanted to make one
black and white quilt. I have done so, and have a second in the
works, and I am sure I can make at least two more. Cat fabric,
cowboy fabric, Aunt Gracie fabric, batiks, and three or four
more piles, all have way more than I need to make a couple of
quilts from each. And one jelly roll that was to make one quilt?
accidentally has made two because the border didn't go well with
the middle (too light to go with the darker middle).

The quilt store that was close enough to walk to closed after
the owner decided to retire at 70, so the fact that this lady is
almost 75 is a testament to her staff having her back. However,
she was pretty sick late last year and I think started to think
about how long it would take her to empty the shop. She plans
to be done in June, which means sales to watch for in the coming
months. (Like I need to buy more stuff!)

There is a fantastic quilt shop about 35 miles from my house.
The owner is a couple years older than me. If 70 is the average
retirement age for quilt shop owners, there is only about 3-4
years left.

Treat them really well; maybe they won't want to retire and miss
seeing you! ;)

She posts pictures of recently-arrived fabric. I got so excited
about one particular piece that I jumped my car and drove there
within 2 hours of her posting the picture.
She goes to Nashville for her own fabric addiction and buys for
the store too. Super cute fabric!
