Anybody belong to a book club?

I have decided to join a book club at my local library next year
(there are three to choose from; two general ones and one
devoted to mysteries and thrillers). I just want to know how
many members here belong to one and how do they like it.

I belonged to one that focused on mysteries. I enjoyed it, the
books, the discussion, and getting together with friends once a
month. I eventually dropped out because I had other books at
home which weren't getting read due to lack of time. I could
see rejoining at some point, though.

I belong to one and love it. It is a private group, not through
the library, and we all get along very well and enjoy our
monthly meetings. We take turns hosting and picking the book, we
do potluck, and we always have plenty of wine. We are even doing
a group getaway in January for a weekend - no book involved,
just friends.
We have a method where everyone gets a chance to speak. The host
leads the discussion by asking specific questions if she wants,
or just letting everyone voice their thoughts freely. Either
way, we go around the circle and everyone gets a chance to
speak. People do interrupt sometimes, it's inevitable, but since
our agreement is that each person holds the floor when it's
their turn, we all sort of police each other so that the
interruption doesn't get us sidetracked.
As far as books go, I've ended up reading a lot of books I never
would have read otherwise. Some good, some not, but the exposure
to different kinds of books has been great, not to mention
making some great new friends.

I belong to one as well but it's all friends. I don't think ours
is typical though.
We read a book about every 6 weeks. For choosing the books we
are randomly assigned a genre and then pick three books out of
that and the group votes what they want to read. We usually meet
at a bar or restaurant to discuss. People often come even if
they didn't read. It's more an excuse to hang out.

I sort of belong to a book club (my attendance lately has been
terrible). It's a group organized by our neighborhood
association and we meet at the clubhouse once a month. We have
snacks and drinks and talk about the book a bit. I think half of
the members are retired teachers so discussions can be pretty
interesting though we always veer off onto other things besides
the book 😉. We've been trying to focus on local authors
so we've read a variety of genres. Last year one of the local
authors was nice enough to come speak to our group.
It's been fun and I've gotten to know some people from the
neighborhood that I wouldn't have otherwise.

I'm going to one this weekend :)
We are reading When Crickets Cry. I just joined the group, and
I'm behind in the reading. I'm not too worried about it. I'm
sure (hope) everyone will be nice about it. The next book is The
Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. I'm really, really looking
forward to this one.

I read the Henrietta Lax book in a previous book club. Very good
book.
If the club you're joining is like mine, they won't care if you
haven't completed the book. In my club, it happens sometimes.
The caveat is that we won't hold back on discussing the entire
book including spoilers so if you haven't finished, you just
have to deal with that. We're all ok with that.

Considering joining one at the local senior citizen center. The
book they are currently reading is Ben Carson's life story. I
love to read but have social anxiety that keeps me from joining
most things. My Wednesday night prayer group is currently
reading " Experiencing God: Knowing and Doing the Will of God"
by Henry Blackaby.
