Advice needed - I need a pithy quote
By: Dr. F. Date: September 2, 2018, 6:19 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
All,
I need some advice.
Many, many years ago, I completed a cross-stitch sampler frame.
I finished it the year I graduated high school, and was going to
do a sampler for that. The lettering never happened. I have
since completed a B.A., M.S., and Ph.D., so commemorating high
school no longer seems relevant. The blank frame has been on my
wall since, but I recently had an urge to go ahead and finish
the silly thing completely, after 30-some years. This was my
first, completed, large cross-stitch project. I've finished many
others since.
Except, I have no idea what to put in the center. I've never
married, so I can't make it a wedding sampler. I'm thinking some
sort of pithy nature-related quote? I can find a good
cross-stitch alphabet, heck, I've designed more than one
cross-stitch font. I just need to decide on words.
I'm going to try to attach a photo of what I'm talking
about.[img][/img]
OK, getting the file small enough is making me insane.
Suggestions?

You could always put all of your graduation dates on there, with
small graduation themed pictures or the logos of the schools.

Very pretty! But sorry I have no pithy quotes. Heck, it took me
20 years to come up with quotes, pithy or otherwise, for my
quote quilt. And what finally occurred to me, and worked really
well, was quotes about sleeping! Don't think that will work for
you.

I was googling nature quotes, there are a few sites that have
aggregated a lot of them.
https://www.brainyquote.com/topics/nature
I like this one from Emerson "The earth laughs in flowers"
Or Wordsworth "Come forth into the light of things, let nature
be your teacher"

And there's bunch on goodreads as well

I felt my lungs inflate with the onrush of sceneryair,
mountains, trees, people. I thought, "This is what it is to be
happy.
― Sylvia Plath, The Bell Jar
Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience.
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the
drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of
the earth.
― Henry David Thoreau, Walden

Oooh. I like the Emerson line! I'll have to try a layout with
that.
Thank You!

If you wanted to be really meta, you could just put "I NEVER GOT
ROUND TO STITCHING THIS SAMPLER". ;)

This one is not mine but it's hanging on my wall:
Sitting here tonight
By the fire light
Reminds me I already have
More than I should
I don't need fame
No one to know my name
At the end of the day
Lord I pray
I have a life that's good

I have to figure out how to put this one somewhere in my house.
Maybe it would help my demeanor when it's below zero in January.
;D
