s/o of Wrong Numbers...Mis-sent Mail.
By: wonderfullyanonymous Date: August 17, 2018, 9:05 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
I don't know how often this happens, but I got the mail out of
my mailbox one day, and there is a bill in there from a medical
clinic I don't use. I panicked, opened up this mail, and I'm
trying to makes heads or tails out of it. I look at it again,
has "my" name, so I look for a birth date on it. Not mine.
I call this clinic, and let them know, they have the wrong
address for the person this bill is for. I told the lady who
answered the phone, I don't know how you got my address on this
bill, but it's not me. It took another bill and phone call
before they had it straightened out.
We've been at this address for 8 years, and every once in a
while, I'll get letters for people who don't live here.

I keep getting mail for the same person off and on, actually two
members of the same family. I don't know them but I am pretty
sure they live in the neighbourhood. I think it's just typos, or
whoever sent mail couldn't read their address properly or
something. I have had this box # for at least 7 years, and it
was a couple of years before I got mail for them, so I don't
think it's their former box #. And I can't track them down - not
in the phone book. I just keep returning to sender.

I told about this on the old board, but we still get mail for a
family with the same house number in the opposite direction
(East Main; West Main). Our regular mail carrier finally stopped
delivering their mail to us, but any substitute carriers still
give it to us.
Despite my efforts to correct this post office error, their
names were so associated with our address that I got a call on
my cell phone from a police officer trying to reach one of them.
He had my address for them and found my cell number.
If I get their junk mail, it goes in the recycling bin. If it's
a credit card offer, it goes back in the mailbox marked unknown
recipient. If it looks like a bill, I put it back in the mailbox
marked not at this address. I have lived here for 30+ years.
This is frustrating!

Occasionally I'll get mail addressed to my ex husband. Mostly
looks like bill collectors. They go back in the box with "Not at
this address" on them.
I'll get the same with phone calls, bill collectors looking for
him.
We've been divorced for 30 years, and I've had absolutely no
contact from him in all those years. I went back to my maiden
name and changed it again when I married my LDH. I have no idea
how these people connect me to him.

My XH passed away a few years ago. Shortly after that, I began
getting calls from creditors trying to collect the missed
payments on his accounts. They were usually on the answering
machine because they called during my work hours, but one day I
was home. I told them we had been divorced 25+ years, the number
they called had never been his number (he lived 200 miles away),
and he was deceased. That stopped the calls as quickly as they
started. I was shocked that they gave up that easily.

Quite a few years ago I finally did answer the phone and talked
to one of the bill collectors that called me and told them
"We've been divorced for Xyears, please take me off of your
list."
The calls and mailings stopped.
But they're starting up again ::).

- I still get traffic court notifications for the lady who lived
in my house before I did. I moved into the house nearly 3 years
ago. The notifications come from a county that is a 4 hour drive
away! I called them and let them know. I send them back with
"Return to Sender". They still keep coming.
- While I lived in my old apartment in this city, I started
getting mail addressed to a "Raoul Nail" sometime during like my
4th year of living there. Most of it was regarding fantasy
football. They eventually stopped before I moved out of the
apartment and into my new condo. They did not follow me to
future addresses.
- But the grand prize goes to one received at the first house I
lived in. This happened during my high school years- sometime
between 1991 and 1995. One day, a letter arrived at the house
addressed to a "Mario Lopez", but with our address. It was from
some local government agency IIRC. I innocently assumed that it
was intended for a new neighbor that I had not met, and that the
department had simply written his address incorrectly. Wrong.
Upon giving it to my parents, they informed me that Mario Lopez
was the person they had bought the house from- in the mid
1970's!!! Way before I was born!

We kept getting a bank statement (I think it was for a
retirement account) for the previous owners of our house. We
had a PO box forwarding address for them, so I forwarded them
for a while. They kept coming, so I tried returning to sender
for a few years. Still kept coming, so I just started shredding
them. I think they've finally stopped coming after 10+ years.
I'm hoping they finally changed the mailing address.

We got parking ticket after parking ticket from all over the
province for the previous tenant. And then we got what appeared
to be notice from the province for the renewal of his licence
plate stickers. We dutifully marked everything Moved - RTS.
Shortly after that last mail, the parking tickets stopped. He
would have had to update his address AND pay off the tickets in
order to keep driving.

I started getting a health magazine of some sort addressed to
someone else, but with our address. I don't know the person it's
addressed to and not sure if she's a neighbor or not. I suppose
I need to call the magazine and let them know.
