Secret Santa Round-Up: What did you receive and what did you gi
ve?

This past Saturday night I was at the Potluck Queen's annual
party. Her rule for Secret Santa is $8 minimum and a
gender-neutral item. I brought a jar of Italian lemon-scented
(and shaped) soaps and a 12-count box of Ferrero Rocher
chocolates. Interestingly, the recipient was a woman who had
visited Italy for the fist time this year.
I received a $100 voucher for Macy's online Wine Shop. Everyone
flipped out at this. My order is en route.

My book club does a book exchange. Everyone brings a wrapped
book: something they have read and liked, could be used. First
person picks and unwraps, next person can steal or pick. Limit
of 3 steals.
I was happy to have given the most-stolen book, Lessons in
Chemistry: A Novel by Bonnie Garmus. (It's great, highly
recommended!)
Edit to add: The person who ended up with the book already
finished it, a week later! So she put it up for grabs for
whoever else wanted to read it. ;D

A $100 gift card! Damn! You lucked out - doubly so since it
wasn't a Yankee swap!

I have a friend who used to do something like this for her
birthday every year. Shed round up a bunch of women to go out
for lunch, and instead of a gift, we would each bring a book we
liked, usually used. They werent wrapped; the giver would say
a bit about the book, and someone would say, Id like that
one, and shed get it. Somehow that always worked out fine.
If there was a book that sounded good to me that I didnt get,
Id just write down the title and buy it or get it from the
library later.
I now recall that that is how I discovered one of the best
novels Ive ever read, A Lesson Before Dying.. It broke my
heart.

Isisnin, it was essentially a coupon for $100 off their current
curated case, which is priced at $190. When I looked at the
coupon and it said that it was valid for only 30 days I wondered
when the giver had received it. I signed in the next morning
(Sunday) and it was valid. This came to about $100 for the case
and I also took the holiday special box of 3 reds for another
$25. Total after tax was about $133.
You can choose all reds, all whites, or half and half on the
case. Most of these are made in the USA and shipment is only
within the continental US. Free shipping on orders of 6 or more
bottles.
Mine just arrived and the white ones are cold enough to open and
drink right now.
