Here Comes Christmas!

Well, yesterday my daughter and son-in-law (we share a house)
got out the Christmas tree from the attic and set it up and
plugged in the lights. Today we are going to decorate it. They
rearranged the furniture and all that stuff so it would fit in
the living room. The halloween and fall decor was stored away
until next year. I'm not a fan of having the tree around for
the whole month of December but they are so I've been putting up
with it for 13 Christmases. I should be used to it by now, but
I'm always glad with January first comes and we put everything
away.

Spent yesterday afternoon putting up the outdoor decorations. We
have the only outside nativity scene in the neighborhood.

I have just finished putting up my Christmas decorations, vase,
and wreath. Because I am living alone now, I can wait until
December 23rd to put up my little tree, just in time for my
offspring to enjoy it when they come visit, and then I take it
down December 26th. I leave a few decorative things out for New
Year's though, because the holiday season isn't over yet.

Im a dogged traditionalist: my Christmas decorations go up on
Christmas Eve. Normally I would bring in my potted Christmas
tree from the garden then, but after five good years it couldnt
cope with the summer heat and drought - its alive, but it just
looks too ropey to be festive. Ill go looking for another, but
I wont bring it in till the proper day. When I was a child it
used to be considered unlucky by everyone to bring the tree in
before Christmas Eve; now everybody but me has it decorated from
the beginning of Advent if not earlier, and by Boxing Day most
of them are so sick of the sight of it they strip off the
decorations and put them away! But I love bringing in the tree
on Christmas Eve and fixing the beeswax candles on to it. It
makes that day special.
