|
Jo Jr., however, decided to send me a gift card to my | |
| favorite local restaurant. This is both charming and appalling: | |
| it's HIS birthday, he shouldn't be buying gifts.
| |
| I think Jo Jr. is trying to hint that he doesn't want you to | |
| give him gifts on his birthday. | |
| He has also probably had his mother directly ask him if he got a | |
| card from you, and he probably has heard her complain that you | |
| didn't send on, and he thinks that gift card is a guilt present, | |
| and he doesn't want those. | |
| Since you and Jo Jr. are friends, I suggest you ask him how HE | |
| would like you to mark his birthday, and see if he'll go with | |
| something that's easy maintenance for you. (Does he send you a | |
| birthday card, and a present? If he doesn't, you shouldn't | |
| either.) | |
