| Crafting Question: Seashell Decor | |
| By: Venus193 Date: April 10, 2022, 8:46 am | |

| In the past couple of years I've become almost obsessed with | |
| seashells and the cool things you can do with them. The ones I | |
| can't make jewelry of are fated to be jarred like this: | |

| The jar on the right cost me $3 in a local store. The one on | |
| the left had once contained a food item and I soaked off the | |
| labels when cleaning it. I figured I could get away with that | |
| if the lid has nothing on it. The question is whether it would | |
| be tacky to reuse a jar that has a brand name on the lid when | |
| it's impossible to remove the brand name neatly. | |

| You can always cover up the brand name on the lid with an | |
| ornamental label, or with paint. One of my parents' neighbours | |
| is locally famous for the chutneys, jams and other preserves | |
| that she makes out of produce from her garden and foraged wild | |
| fruit, and sells for charity; she saves used jam jars and asks | |
| her neighbours to donate them too, and she paints the lid of | |
| each one with a design referencing what's inside. | |

| What kind of paint works for this? | |

| Ive no idea what our neighbour used, but I'd imagine ordinary | |
| acrylic paint, or indeed any water-based gloss paint. | |

| nail polish, especially glittery ones, can be used instead of | |
| paint. | |

| I use nail polish on shells that become jewelry. It's good for | |
| that but I worry about how lasting it is. | |

| You should be able to paint your metal tops and let them dry for | |
| a couple of days and then apply a clear acrylic coat. That | |
| would keep the paint from being scratched off or marred in some | |
| way. I'm not sure that would work but you could experiment with | |
| one. It also might be a good idea to lightly sand the top with | |
| very fine sandpaper so the paint will adhere better. | |

| Does this work or should I just only use jars with smooth glass: | |

| Are there supposed to be photos, because there is nothing, not | |
| even a link. | |

| The photos were large so they were probably removed. | |
| I just moved into a new computer so I haven't had time to put ,y | |
| photo files back yet. Will do so as soon as I can. | |
