How do i word this?

Dear Etiquette Champions
I am a long term sub music teacher and finally, the teacher that
I am subbing for has retired. They are doing interviews but they
haven't talked to me yet. I have also been out with a stomach
bug. I have been treated very favorably by the people that work
there but no one has mentioned to me if I am being considered.
Yes, i did formally apply through the HR process. My principal
may not know if I have applied. I am nervous to bring this up.
They are hoping to have finished all interviews either last week
or failing that this week. This is also the last week of school.
What do you think of this email?
Dear Principal Blank and Blank
I would love to stay on and continue working at _______. I just
wanted to let you know that working here has been a very
positive experience and that I have been treated with great
kindness and I am very impressed the professionalism of everyone
that works here. (The kids and their families are wonderful
too.) Please let me know if you have any questions.
Sincerely yours,
What do you all think? How do I craft this better? -Thanks!

I may add something like "as you may know that I applied through
HR..." that way he knows that you went through the proper
channels. Then I may add something as to why I was a good fit
for the role (and not just why the school is a good fit for me.)
I might also be a bit more forward in my rationale for the
email, so that it was clear that I wanted to ensure that my
application was received and not just a thank you note for the
year.

I agree with DDP - you need to make clear that you have actually
put in a proper application, otherwise it could read as though
you blithely thought you didn't need to go through the proper
channels but could just drop a line to the principal. I would
definitely also add 'and I'm waiting keenly for a response from
HR', just to make clear that your application hasn't been
responded to. If the principal has already been handed a
shortlist, with your name not on it, this could be the last
point at which your application could be searched for and
hastily added.
If they have considered your application but want to appoint
someone else, that's disappointing for sure, but is what it is.
But if your application just got lost in the machinery
somewhere, they may go ahead and appoint someone in the belief
that you weren't interested; and if they don't learn about your
application till after they have offered the job to someone else
and had it accepted, it'll be too late to take that offer back.
Indeed, if you haven't even had an acknowledgement from HR I
would chase this up directly with them too.

I also agree with DDP to mention that you applied for the
position through HR. That way the principal can ask why they
didn't include your application with the others for
consideration of the position.

You express in your note why you love it there, which is fine,
however, you might want to also include a sentence or two about
why you'd be a good hire, e.g., your work ethic, your
accomplishments, your relationships with the students and staff.

I second this! They need to know what you bring to the table to
be the best fit for the position, not just why you liked working
there. Especially given the fact that they have not reached out
to you for an interview. Good luck!

Just one change to clarify that you have gone through the
appropriate channel first.
