Duplicate job requisition posting
By: Victoria Date: March 9, 2020, 10:07 am
---------------------------------------------------------
I applied for a state government job through the state
government's recruiting software a little less than a month ago.
Today I realized that they'd posted the same job under a
different requisition number, but I have no "Candidate
Notifications" in that section, and my status in the software is
simply "Application Submitted."
When I called the number that applicants are supposed to call
specifically for questions about said software, the person I
spoke with couldn't answer any of my questions, like "Will my
status ever change from 'Application Submitted' to 'Rejected' if
I don't get the job?" and "Does it mean anything if the same job
opening was posted again under a different requisition?" She
gave me generic "Well, I think they're supposed to do X and Y"
and offered to transfer my call directly to the agency that was
hiring, which I declined.
The second requisition closes very soon. I know that there's a
number of reasons a job could be double posted-two positions
opened up, they don't think the candidate pool was strong
enough, they didn't have enough applicants, etc. I am debating
applying to the second job posting (with the same application as
on the first) but am wondering if that's a good idea or not. I'm
also open to the possibility of calling back and asking to be
transferred to the agency, but I don't necessarily want to be
That Candidate and bug them with a phone call. I would try to
get Alison's take on Ask a Manager (and have searched the
archives without finding this exact scenario) but I know she has
a backlog of questions.

Try Alison! I sent her a question once and she replied to me
fairly quickly. She answers many questions that don't make it to
the blog.

I did pass it on to her, but I've sent her a few questions and
she's never replied to me.

You could always ask during the Friday work-related open thread,
the commenters can sometimes be helpful

I think with this being government she won't be able to help
much. But there are a few gov'ment workers who post regularly
and they prob would know. a friday open thread sounds best.

The second req actually closes before I would have a chance to
get any input in that thread, unfortunately.

I vote to apply for the second posting. Review your application
and submitted documents to see if there are places for you to
enhance your submission for the job by matching the language of
the posting or hitting more keywords for the industry.

I used to work for the federal government and their job posting
system is similar. I think you should apply for the second
position.

I work my days as a recruiter. Apply for the second one. People
sometimes apply multiple times for the same exact job posting.
It does not bother me, I just assume that they did not realize
that it was the same one that we discussed the previous day. I
only get annoyed if you were applying daily or something like
that.

Thanks everyone. I applied for the second position and swapped
out my resume for a different/cleaner version.
