This is, without a doubt, an incredible idea and one I wish I had thought of.
I already use shortcuts like this, such as “---” for “—” (an em-dash) or “``”
for the nice open double quote that are “baked” into the code so to speak,
but the ability to add more on a per-entry basis would be very neat indeed.

I'll have to look into this a bit more.
