"DESCRIPTION" COLUMN NET ABBREVIATIONS:
NETS: Around the world, groups of public bulletin boards and other
computer systems have loosely organized themselves into "networks" that
share or "echo" messages among their members through periodic mail
package distribution. Mail packages for most of these networks are relayed
once per night, with long distance phone charges paid by each member
system. Each network sponsors a collection of special-interest "conferences"
or discussion forums. Each member BBS may select from this list, and any
user may join the discussion. Most network member systems ask their users
to install shareware "off-line" message-reading software. Software
recommendations, local and network rules, and important suggestions may
often be found in a Bulletins section available from the Main menu of
participating systems.
