The following is the solution for "cdsample.z5," a short sample
game.
You start out in your great uncle's house, trying to find lost
treasure.  Note: I will have you examine everything, even though
you do not always need to, just because this is supposed to be an
intro to interactive fiction.

So, let's start by examining the coffee table (x table).  Hmmm.
Nothing worthwhile here, so let's go south.  (S) Once in the
lounge, you can play with the fish for amusement, but it really has
nothing to do with the game.  But, just for completeness, you
should examine the fish bowl (x bowl) and look at the fish (x
fish).  You can safely ignore the chair, also, but you should
examine it first.  (x chair)
If you try to go south, the door is jammed shut.  Do not try
to open it, it will not open.  So, from the lounge, go north, then
north again to your great uncle's bedroom.
There is a lot to look at here, so let's try examining things.
Let's start with the bed and furniture.  (x bed, x furniture)
Hmmm.  Well, nothing there, so let's examine the case.  (x case)
Hmm, fake books.  This calls for closer examination, don't you
think?  I doubt if this uncle never read at all, so let's examine
books.  Well, well.  What's this, a loose book.  Get that and
examine it.  If you want, read it, it does help introduce i-f a
litttle clearer.
OH, what was that lantern on the bed for?  Well, lanterns
produce light.  There was a gap when you took that book.  Maybe you
would need the lamp to see behind the books, so get it and turn it
on.  (get lamp, turn on lamp) and enter gap.
You do not fit, but you get a clue.  If the case was out of
the way, you could probably go back there, so push case (or move
case) and you just cleared away a big room.  So, with the lantern
on, go east.  You seem to have found a treasure vault with your
uncle's chest in it.  Try to "open chest," and you need a key.
Darn, you almost had the treasure.  Well, go west (look around,
but there is no key here), and look again.  Was there anything we
overlooked?  How about that plant?  (x plant or x pot).  You
automatically get a rusty key when you do this.
One law of i-f is to always carry around keys you find until
you are sure you do not need them again, they come in real handy.
Anyway, now you can go east and "unlock chest with key."  It
unlocks easily (but it is old).  Now you can open the chest and get
the crown inside.  (open chest. get crown)
So, again go west, turn off the lamp (have to save energy,
right?), and type "look."  Read the room description carefully, try
going south, and think about where an exit might be.  Obviously,
the door is stuck shut also and is not going to open, but what
about the window?  Try going north, and the window is in the way.
So, open the window, (open window) and go north.
You did it.  You found your way out of your great uncle's
house with treasure.  Too bad you lost your crown, but at least you
got something.

    For amusement, have you:
tried to wear the crown?
manipulated the fish in various ways?
opened the window and typed "score" before you go north?
opened the window, dropped the crown and tried to leave?
