Tel: (408) 454-9618, e-mail: [email protected]
- A group, started by Billy Ray Boyd, planning to start a vegan
 community in Santa Cruz. The main goal of the project is to provide
 a psychologically comfortable and supportive haven for vegans.
 Co-housing combines privacy with shared living: each person or
 family has a separate apartment or house, and residents share a
 common room or building for community meals and activities. The core
 goals of the project are: all common meals must be strictly vegan;
 the project will be integrated into city life; and housing will be
 affordable, possibly on a rental or lease basis, to include people
 who can't afford to purchase a home. One can get around within Santa
 Cruz by bike, and the public transportation is very good. It may be
 several years before the community is actually started. Local people
 willing to dedicate time and energy to the project are needed.
