Hello,

I was wondering if there was a way to activate/desactivate
filters within PCPine?
my question is because I need to create a set of
filters but I would like to activate those filters
during certain time period (holidays, ....) and
desactivate them when I do not need them.
If I am right, the only way to do it is to destroy and re-create
them :-(((

thanks/Bertrand

Dear Bertrand,

Create a filter as you normally would, in the headers section press "X"
to add an extra header and add the "Received" (or maybe "Date") header. In
that pattern enter the dates when you would like the filter to be
activated, separated by commas, in the format "day Month". There's just
one trick that you need to keep in mind, which may make you match more
than one date. For example you should not enter "4 Jul" to match July 4th,
since it will also match July 14 and July 24. In order to bypass this
difficulty you may enter the date encoded in some character set, for
example, in the above case you just need to enter
"=?iso-8859-1?Q?=2C_4_Jul?=" (this is equivalent to the string ", 4 Jul").
If you want to match December 24 you just need to enter "24 Dec", no
encoding needed.

I hope this helps you. Salu2,

I am trying to compile Pine and am having a problem.  I am running
Debian, and the .deb's did not work right either, so I am trying to
compile myself.  It has compiled pico and pilot correctly, I am not sure
why it will not compile pine for me.  This is the output:

Well, I was using postfix (so that's what that was for... hehe), but
installed fetchmail to try out some filter that automatically checked out
the attachmants. The disadvantage of this was that I never got to see these
e-mails, they were deleted, an e-mail was sent to some site, and I got each
time (with my tests) a reply from them telling me that I had a virus and it
was deleted. I don't like this. Even if I do get sent a virus, I don't need
e-mails unwillingly being sent left right and center, so I think I'm going
to install postfix again tomorrow or so.

But yeah, postfix uses procmail too (so I read). Any ideas how I can set
this up to filter anything through  ravlin8 (RAV Antivirus). The reason why
I ask this is because RAV has an option to scan through e-mails too, and it
works great, and can also delete the infected attachment (well, not delete
it, but not let you save it from within your e-mail program... quite
handy)?

Any ideas would be appreciated :-)

I see a few options in setup/config but they don't seem too relevant.

I have my work mail acct and I have my mac.com mail account, mostly set up
just because I can, because I don't actually use it..

But I wish <tab> would just go to the next new message in this folder and
not try to go to the other folder..

Is there a way to do this?

If not, I guess I'll turn off the multiple incoming folders thing.

I use Pine to read email stored on an Exchange server (over IMAP).
Most of the other users of the server are using Outlook XP.

Outlook XP has CSS style sheets imbedded into the HTML headers of
the message.  These all occuring between <head> and </head> tags.

Pine doesn't seem to know that it should ignore these, so I get
huge style sheet blocks at the top of messages which makes it hard
to figure out where the real text starts.  Is there a work around
for this?  I can think of two possible fixes, both of which would
be nice:
* Pine ignores the stuff instead <head> and <style> tags
* PC-Pine could really use a button for HTML mail which allows you
to view the message in a browser.  This would be nice for the
<STYLE> issue, but would also work well for documents with
fancy formatting (tables and other things that Pine doesn't
  handle very well).

I'm using PC-Pine 4.33 with SSL.

thanks,
alex

Hi all.

When I define a role with different email address, and set it up to ask me
on compose, reply etc, when replying it does not work.  Pine will just
reply and put my default email as From... is there a patch for this?

Thanks!

 Hey,

You know, I just don't get it.  I've had no trouble installing
pine since...what, 3.something (I think), but now, the third time
round on 4.33 (the previous two in Mandrake 7.2) is driving me
nuts.

 I've tried both ./build lnx & ./build slx, & I've never had to
edit any files before, but though slx goes through compiling pico
& pilot, pine does not compile.  Then, with lnx, pine compiles,
but I get no executable of any of the three apps.

I'm attempting to compile in Mandrake 8.0, & I've all the
libraries & compilers.  Is it mdk 8.0 -- as opposed to 7.2 &
various releases of RedHat -- causing me this trouble, or is it
just me?

 Meph

Hi, Anton,
Are you sure that you have the feature caalled
"confirm-role-even-for-default" checked in your config?
If you do, it should work properly.

Hm I overlooked this one.  I thought if I defined this in roles (Confirm
on reply) it would work.

Thanks a lot!

Hi all,

I noticed that with a bounced message, a "Recip" rule will match the
Resent-to: field but not the To: field.  However, it will still match the
Cc: field.  This behavior seems kind of inconsistent.  Perhaps it should
be match Resent-to:, To:, and Cc: --OR-- match only Resent-to:.

Oh, this is on Pine 4.33 if that makes any difference.

Tony

That means that the build command failed when building the imap server.
What was the error? (did you get a "crypt" error message in the build

successfully compile Pine when I use the "lnp" parameter. Maybe that will
allow you to compile successfully.

Subject: pine splits bounced posts!!

Hi all!
I'm using sunOS 5.7, and i have sendmail 8.9.3 as my MTA....recently i
installed majordomo and so far i have no prob with it, except this:

when i tried to open a bounced majordomo  post in PINE, i noticed that for
each bounced post, they were two posts! One is a post titled
BOUNCE:Non-member...with no message body whatsoever (empty) and the other
one is the normal post send by user that got bounced, with its body of
message (just like normal post)...

i did some looking up and found out in my /var/mail/fail, for each bounced
post, they are 2 "From" columns, separated by space.I think the second
"From" is the culprit since it should have > appended in front of it, like
>From. The problem is, sendmail didnt do this! then i read something about
adding the F=E flag to Mlocal line should fix the prob...well i did that,
and restart sendmail. But nothing happened!! pine still splits the BOUNCE
posts!

any hints, anybody?maybe some proper example of what changes should i made
to sendmail?THANKS!!

No, sendmail don't do that, neither do pine. It is your local delivery
program, defined by Mlocal in sendmail.cf. If you have a standard spool
format, the mail separtor is "\n\nFrom ", which means that instances that
look the same have to be escaped.

Either you have to find another format for the spool file or in some way
make sendmail or the local delivery program save all mail Base64
encoded. Either the MBX format or procmail might be a solotion for you.=20

It's not just "Linux users with remote mail servers" but anyone
who wants to start composing a message either from the command
line or by using a mailto URL. I've updated my Changing Your From
Header page, which is here

<http://www.ii.com/internet/messaging/pine/changing_from/>

so that it now discusses this. As always, feedback is welcome!

Thanks to Mark Copper for pointing out this problem,

Hi Mats...
thanks for the reply!! so i have to change my spooler format, like you
said..but the problem is,i dont know exactly where to change it! Can you
tell me exactly where it is?
And do you have some procmail installation documentation that i can
refer to if i want to use procmail? I have some difficulties trying to
edit the Makefile (the architecture part) for sunOS 5.7....THANKS!!

In <http://www.washington.edu/pine/faq/sysadmins.html> you can read about
mailbox format and pine. With procmail and dmail from
<ftp://ftp.cac.washington.edu/imap/imap.utils.tar.Z> you can have mail
delivered to an MBX folder.

For information on procmail, see <http://www.procmail.org/>.

maildir.c is not a file distributed in the original source code of Pine.
This means that you patched Pine. Contact the person that wrote that patch

Hi,

I recently set up pine to work with PGP (actually GPG) and was happy to
see how nicely they work together.  However, pine seems to be saving
emails I sent to my sent-mail folder after they are processed by my filter
(PGP).  Thus, I can't read any emails which I sent to others using PGP.
Is there a way to have pine store the original, un-encrypted, email to my
sent-mail folder instead of the encrypted version?

Thanks in advance.

Dan

Doing so would completely defeat the purpose of using PGP/GnuPG (:

What you should do is make sure you encrypt all outbound mail to the
recepient's key, AND YOUR OWN KEY. Then you'll be able to read all the
mail you've sent.

Hi all - need some help.

I'd like to set up a hidden global mailbox. The intent is that users can
type in a name on the To: line it will expand if it matches something in
the global mailbox.

But I'd want them to be able to go to the Address Book screen and see all
the addresses... makes it too easy to spam.

Any ideas? I took a look through the source, and I think making the
modification might be a little over my head...

 Hey,

I'd upgraded pine 4.21 on a Mandrake 7.2 box recently to pine
4.33 with the rpm (the .gz wouldn't compile in either Mandrake
7.2 or 8.0 -- must be a Mandrake thing).  I'd run pico a couple
of times & then, the other day, I'd begun to get this error:

pico: error in loading shared libraries: pico: undefined symbol:
stat

I then get a dead promp at the ~right~ hand side of the screen
which accepts no input, though reset sets it right again.

What shared library would this be, & why would it be screwey
now?

Anyway, I'd re-run the pine 4.33 rpm to no avail.  Is there a
way to reinstall just the shared librarys...?  ...From an rpm...?

 Meph

Take a look at

https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/cgi-bin/show_bug.cgi?id=2013

this is a well known bug, at least for version 4.30, which is "resolved",
and their resolution is "WONTFIX". It's very likely that the same
resolution be applied to this version of Pine. In any case, submit the bug
report in mandrake's site. Maybe this time you'll be luckier than others
that have submitted the same problem.

Warning.. html content...

So I'm viewing a message (spam, of course) with full headers, and thus it's
showing me the source..
<head>
<title>Untitled Document</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
</head>

This is with pine 4.33.  I do a 'w' for http, and it shows me found
on line 15.  So I do it again, and it says it found it on line 16.

But line 16 is the
</head>
line, and the cursor is at the end of the line.

I tried it with 'title' and it cycled through the 3 occurrances as seen on
the 2nd line of the html..

I've seen this before.  Why is 'w' lying to me?  (Plus it's not wrapping
around, which it does for other things?)

All was as fine as can be with PC-Pine under WinNTsp6a using
/ssl/novalidate-cert to my Linux box for mail.  But wait, I install
the post 6a hotfixes now available via the windowsupdate site and after
a reboot find that PC-Pine's SSL breaks.  I am getting the following
in the debug logs and can not connect to my mailboxes:

IMAP 08:07:38 8/21 mm_log ERROR: Certificate chain issued by untrusted authority
IMAP 08:07:38 8/21 mm_log ERROR: Can't establish SSL session to imap.xxxxxx.com/imaps,993
IMAP 08:07:38 8/21 mm_log babble: Winsock cleanup

Yes, the certificate is self-signed and that is why I have been using
the novalidate-cert switch.  After several "What the heck happened, I
haven't touched PC-Pine's config in months" restarts to PC-Pine, I
decided to uninstall the post-6a hotfixes, and reboot.  Wow, PC-Pine
works again. :)

Who gets to point fingers?  PC-Pine or M$?  Do the developers need
anymore info?

Hi,

I have been trying for a long time to create a local addressbook on an
IMAP server. I followed the instructions carefully but the result is
always "unreadable addressbook". The address book address is an empty
directory on an AIX machine with rwx permissions to anybody.

Any help?

Thanks

What do you mean by "empty directory"?. The addressbook is a file, not a
directory. You have not certainly told us what directions you followed
carefully, so there's no way for us to tell you what you did wrong or
which directions need to be fixed.

Any way, if you want to copy *any of your* address-books to the server,
the easiest form I can think of doing this is by pressing M S Z and
answering "Y" to the questions of conversion of address-books. At the end,
take the note of how to access it.

I'm not sure if this is a crash due to pine, or due to something in OSX..
could someone please clue me in?

I am running the Terminal program under MallocDebug, a program which
helps find memory corruption problems.   (And thus it's also being
used for any programs that Terminal launches I guess..)

So I just had this happen:
MallocDebug: Target application attempted to read address 0x7c0802ae, which can't be read.
MallocDebug: MallocDebug can't do anything about this, so the app's just going to have to
                  be terminated.
                                MallocDebug: *************************************************
MallocDebug: THIS IS A BUG IN THE PROGRAM BEING RUN UNDER MALLOC DEBUG,
MallocDebug: NOT A BUG IN MALLOC DEBUG!
                                            MallocDebug: *************************************************

and the crash catching program shows:

So pine actually searches what is SEEN, not the whole field?

i.e. the From field in my sent mail folder had someone's name cut off..

I searched for their full last name -> nothing found.

It'd be cool if it actually remembered the full name and allowed searches
on the full name/fields even if some of it was cut off for cosmetic reasons.

interesting, I can make the window wider and then it shows the whole thing.

Hi. I was thinking whether I can setup PINE such that whenever I receive a
new email, it automatically send a notification message (not forwarding
the email) to my other email address. Does anybody know how to do that?

Thank you

Subject: Deleting messages via filter, and the journal

I have numerous filters separating messages into folders, and one which
deletes bounce messages from a particular domain.
After the filtering actions are taken, I can view the journal and learn of
the messages which were moved, but no info is displayed on the deleted
messages acted upon by that filter.
Is this a bug, or is there a reason that Pine can't display this info?
I'd like it so I can keep track of these, without, of course, having to
look at each individual message and delete it.
This sort of thing can be useful for list-owners who keep getting email
bounces from forwarded messages whose path is tough to trace.

I have been trying to get this to work for a few months.  I guess I
have a brain problem with this error.  I have added the LDFLAGS
manually and it still does not work.  I have not been able I did not
have any problem with 4.30

Here is what is happening.

Here is the LDFLAGS

-L/usr/local/ssl/lib -lcrypt -lsocket -lprot -lx -ltinfo -lssl -lcrypto -lm

the above is correct and what I use.  They also have the missing symbols.

make args are CC=cc

Remember, pine is a UA and this would only work if you had pine running at
all times.

This type of work is best suited for "procmail".

yes, that's correct. There are two commands you should be aware of:

- The "w" command works as you describe it. If something is not in the
screen, it won't be found (this usually causes a trouble for me when
searching in the configuration screen)

- In the case of folders, use the ";" Select command. This command will
find the matches for you, regardless of what is written in the screen, and
it will match complete names. Unfortunately, there's no ";" command for
the configuration screen.

But why does it work that way?  It just seems _wrong_ to literally search

Yes, but typing ;TSwhatever<return>
is actually a lot more of a pain than typing wwhatever^X<return>
even though it is only a few more characters.

It works that way because "w" is a general mechanism that just searches
the raw text that is displayed on the screen. It doesn't know where the
text comes from, so it doesn't have access to the non-truncated index
lines, for example. It would be nice if it could do that, but there are no
plans to make it work that way.

I am required to log into my news server every time I want to post. However=
, pine assumes my user name is the same on my news server as it is on my lo=
cal machine. It isn't. How do I tell pine to ask me what my user name is on=
the server? Is there any way to tell it what my user name is on the server=
for good? Thanks

Josh
