4. Preparation for Installing Adobe PostScript Driver:
1. Format a diskette and copy the files in this package to it.
This diskette will be referred to as the Lexmark diskette in
the remainder of these instructions.
2. Determine the version of Adobe PostScript Driver you are
installing.
If you are installing printers for Adobe PostScript Driver
version 5.0 or above in Windows NT 4.0 to section 5 for
instructions.
If you are installing printers for Adobe PostScript Driver
version 4.0 or greater but less than 5.0 above in Windows
95 go to section 5 for instructions.
If you are installing printers for Adobe PostScript Driver
version 3.0 or greater but less than 4.0 go to section 6
for instructions.
If you are installing printers for Adobe PostScript Driver
less than version 3.0 go to section 7 for instructions.
5. Installation Instructions for Adobe PostScript Printer Driver Version
5.0 and above:
To install or update one of the printers listed above take the
following steps.
1. Start the installation of Adobe Systems' Printer Driver.
2. If you accept the end user license agreement, choose "Yes"
to continue the installation.
3. Choose "Next" if you do not wish to read the Adobe ReadMe file
or after you have finished reading.
4. Choose "Yes" or "No" and press "Next" to copy the installation
program or not.
5. Choose "Local Printer" or "Network Printer" and select "Next."
6. Insert the Lexmark diskette into the a: drive. Change
directories to the a: drive. All of the printers above will
appear in the "Postscript Printer descriptions (PPD's)
available:" box. Only PostScript Level 2 or 3 printers will
be available.
7. Choose your printer and select "Next."
8. Choose the port to which you printer is connected and select
"Next."
9. Choose either to share or not share your printer on the network.
If you choose to share your printer, you can enter the share
name and choose which other client operating systems will be
using your printer. This README will not detail the steps
involved in installing drivers for other operating systems.
10. Type in a name other than the default for your printer if you
wish. Decide if you would like to use this as your default
printer and if you would like to print a test page. Select
"Next" when you are finished.
11. You now have an opportunity to setup your printer properties
if you wish. Make any desired changes and choose "OK."
12. If you want to install other printers choose "Add Another" and
repeat steps 5 through 11. Otherwise, choose "Exit."
13. You can now go to the "Printers" folder in the "Settings" menu
to configure your printer. Choose your printer in the folder.
Right-click on its icon and choose "Properties" to customize the
features of your printer or choose "Document Defaults..." to
customize initial driver document settings for the printer.
6. Installation Instructions for Adobe PostScript Printer Driver Version
4.0 and above but less than version 5.0:
To install or update one of the printers listed above take the
following steps.
Step 1: Preparation
1. If you have not installed the Adobe Systems' Printer Driver,
do so now. This will add an icon labeled "AdobePS 4 Setup
Utility" to the "AdobePS 4" folder in your Programs menu.
2. If you want to update a printer that is already installed, you
must remove it first (highlight the printer and click on Remove).
Step 2: Installation
1. Click on the "AdobePS 4 Setup Utility" icon.
2. Choose "Next" if you do not wish to read the Adobe ReadMe file
or after you have finished reading.
3. Choose "Local Printer" or "Network Printer" and select "Next."
4. Insert the Lexmark diskette into the a: drive. Change
directories to the a: drive. All of the printers above will
appear in the "Postscript Printer descriptions (PPD's)
available:" box. If you are using version 4.2.3 of the Adobe
driver, only PostScript Level 2 or 3 printers will be available.
You must use an earlier version of the driver if you wish to
print to PostScript Level 1 printers.
5. Choose your printer and select "Next."
6. Choose the port to which you printer is connected and select
"Next."
7. Type in a name other than the default for your printer if you
wish. Decide if you would like to use this as your default
printer and if you would like to print a test page. Select
"Next" when you are finished.
8. You now have an opportunity to setup your printer if you wish.
Make any desired changes and choose "OK."
9. If you want to install other printers choose "Add Another" and
repeat steps 3 through 8. Otherwise, choose "Exit."
10. You can now go to the "Printers" folder in the "Settings" menu

7. Installation Instructions for Adobe PostScript Printer Driver Version
3.0 and above but less than version 4.0:
To install or update one of the printers listed above take the
following steps.
Step 1: Preparation
1. If you have not installed the Adobe Systems' Printer Driver,
do so now. This will add an icon labeled "PostScript Printers"
to your Control Panel.
2. If you want to update a printer that is already installed, you
must remove it first (highlight the printer and click on Remove).
Step 2: Installation
1. Double click the "PostScript Printers" icon in Control Panel.
2. Insert the Lexmark diskette into the a: drive. Change
directories to the a: drive. All of the printers above will
appear in the "Printer Descriptions Available:" box.
3. Choose your printer from the list and click on "Install."
4. When you have added all of the printers you wish to add, choose
"Close".
5. You can now go to the "Printers" icon in Control Panel. Choose
your printer in the list of installed printers and choose
"Setup" to customize the features of your printer.
8. Installation Instructions for Adobe PostScript Printer Driver prior to
version 3.0:
To install or update one of the printers listed above take the
following steps.
Step 1: Preparation
1. Make a copy of Adobe Systems' Printer Driver Install Disk #1.
2. Copy OEMSETUP.INF from the Lexmark diskette to the copy of
Install Disk #1.
Step 2: Installation.
1. Start Windows.
2. Double-click on Control Panel.
3. Double-click on Printers.
4. If you want to update a printer that is already installed, you
must remove it first (highlight the printer and click on Remove).
5. Click on Add.
6. In the List of Printers click on Install Unlisted or Updated
Printers.
7. Click on Install.
8. Insert the copy of Install Disk #1 you prepared in Step 2 into
drive A: (or B:).
9. Click on OK (or enter B:\ and click on OK).
10. Choose the Lexmark or IBM printer you wish to install from the
list of printers that appears and click on OK.
11. When asked to insert a diskette with the PPD for your printer,
insert the Lexmark diskette and click on OK.
12. Windows returns to the Printers dialog box with the newly
installed printer added to the Installed Printers list.
If your printer is not connected to the port shown, click on
Connect, select the correct port, and click on OK.
13. To customize the features and settings of your printer
- click on Setup
- click on Features
- set the features and options to match your printer
- click on OK
14. Select the remaining settings and adjust them as needed for
your print jobs.
15. Close the Printers dialog box and Exit the Control Panel.
