IBM Patent Policy for MPLS
IBM believes it may have patents which relate to compliant
implementations of IETF RFC's in the area of MPLS (Multiprotocol Label
Switching).
In support of IETF intellectual property rights procedures, IBM is willing
to offer non-exclusive licenses,upon written request from implementers of
MPLS, under reasonable and non-discriminatory terms and conditions, in
accordance with IBM's usual licensing practices, when there is a necessary
dependence upon IBM patents to implement MPLS.
Patents which may be necessary, in compliant implementations of MPLS,
include the following:
IBM US Patent 6055561, (Mapping of Routing Traffic to Switching Networks,
issued April, 2000, Feldman et al)
IBM US Patent 6069889, (Aggregationof Data Flows on Switched Network Paths,
issued September, 1997, Feldman et al)
IBM US Patent 5311509, (Configurable Gigabits Switch Adapter, issued May,
1994, Heddes et al)

This is to advise the IETF that IBM believes it has filed patents
that relate to the MPLS working group.
In accordance with the intellectual
property rights procedures of the IETF standards process,
IBM is willing to offer, upon written request from the implementers of
the MPLS, a non-exclusive license under reasonable and
non-discriminatory terms and conditions.
