Product implementations of IETF RFCs for SNMP (Simple Network Management
Protocol) such as SNMP V1 (RFC 1157 et al, 1990), SNMP V2 (RFC 1901 et al,
1996), and SNMP V3 (RFC 2572 et al, 1999) may require licensing of IBM
patents. In particular, IBM believes that US Patent 4,965,772 entitled
"Method and Apparatus for Communication Network Alert Message
Construction", issued October, 1990 is relevant to products implementing
the referenced SNMP specifications. In accordance with IBM's long standing
patent licensing policy, IBM wishes to make the following declaration:
In the event that compliant product implementations of SNMP standards
cannot be practiced without the use of one or more IBM patents, IBM is
willing upon written request to grant a nonexclusive license under such
patents on a nondiscriminatory basis and on reasonable terms and
conditions, including its then-current terms and royalty rates.
