This is to advise the IETF that Certicom believes it has rights under
patents and/or pending applications which may be applicable to
specifications being developed by the S/MIME Mail Security working group.
These include, but are not limited to, US patent #5,933,504 "Strengthened
public key protocol" and corresponding foreign applications addressing
methods for mitigating against small subgroup attacks.
Certicom is offering the attached royalty-free license for the use of
US patent #5,933,504 in the restricted field of use of ephemeral-static
Diffie-Hellman as specified in the S/MIME specifications. Prospective
licensees should review, print, and sign the attached license, then keep
one copy and mail another to
Certicom Corp

Hayward, CA 94545, USA.
Outside of the scope of the above royalty free license, Certicom's standard
terms apply: if Certicom has patents and/or pending application(s) that are
essential to the implementation of an IETF standard, Certicom is prepared to
grant a license to such intellectual property on reasonable, non-discriminatory
terms and conditions, provided that the licensee provides a similar grant for
any relevant patents under their control to Certicom.
