Hi John,  I have had quite a "learning experience" with my Mac SE and thought yo
u might have or start a database for 'little known facts'.  I discovered the pro
blem in the process of getting Savant to run with SoftKiss and the Tigertronics
BayPak modem.  The little known fact about the SE is that Pin 7 of the modem ser
ial port can be sensitive to noise even though you don't use it.  Per SoftKiss i
nstructions I tied Pin 7 to the Pin 4 ground.  Because I made this connection at
the db25 connector end of the cable to the modem it picked up noise and resulte
d in the Mac SE running very, very slowly and caused Savant to transmit without
any data...just flag fields!!  Fix is to leave Pin 7 unconnected or to tie it to
either a + or - logic level voltage.  Pin 7 on the Mac Plus does not have this
function(no connection) so doesn't have the same problem as the SE. On the SE Pi
n 7 is called "Data Carrier Detect/Clock Input". Savant is a great packet progra
