The first binary-only driver is now available for GGI. This driver is
for the Permedia chipset. This and other binary-only drivers can
be found on the GGI ftp site (located at
ftp://ftp.ggi-project.org/pub/ggi/)
or one of it's mirrors in the drivers/ directory.
The GGI project has sole responsiblity for maintaining and distributing
these drivers. DO NOT bug the manufacturer with problems or bug reports.
In the near future, we will be setting up an online bug reporting service
devoted specifically to the binary-only drivers that we distribute.
A web page will also be setup to make these drivers available for
download via http.
There is also a developer kit in the works. This will provide detailed
programming information for creating drivers and include skeleton code
that can be "filled in" to quickly create a driver.
Although we encourage making programming information freely
available to developers, we realize that not every company may
be comfortable doing this. All source code in the developers kit
will be unencumbered by any restrictive copyright. Companies may
use the code as a template to create their own binary-only drivers
which can then be distributed by the company or by the GGI project.
We also have several developers willing work under NDA to create
binary-only drivers. In this case, the GGI project will handle
all distribution, support, and development of the driver. You
only need to provide the neccessary information for programming
the chip.

Until the online bug reporting system for the binary drivers is
in place, all bug reports can be sent to the ggi mailinglist
