First, some quick Rumor Control...

For those of you who don't follow the GGI mailing list,
those crazy guys who gave us Abuse, Doom, and Quake are
working on a game called Golgotha.
(see http://www.planetquake.com/golgotha)

There will be a fully supported, commercial version of Golgotha
for Linux. And it will be sold through Redhat Software.
(see http://www.redhat.com)

Dave Taylor, President of Crack dot Com, Inc. ( see http://crack.com )
has expressed an interest in doing a GGI-only version of Golgatha,
skipping over any support for svgalib, XFree86 DGA, and X versions.

A GGI-only version may or may not happen. Absolutely NOTHING is
in stone at the moment. I repeat, there is NO guarantee that there
will be a GGI version. Everyone sing with me... "no guarantee,
no guarantee...".  GGI has some technical issues to resolve, and
must be in a position to fully support all the features required by
Dave and Co. in order for a GGI version to happen.

It has now become even more important for everyone to start installing
and abusing GGI as much as possible. Anyone interested in doing
a driver for a specific chipset should step up and write one.
Anyone who is an X guru should step forward a pick over the GGI Xserver
and related code. All bugs, no matter how small, need to get reported
to the mailinglist. Check the install process, look at the documentation,
find anything you feel needs to be improved and send a report to the
mailinglist. ( located at [email protected] )

End of Rumor Control...

On a related note, DUMB is a Doom compatible 3D game engine for
Linux. ( see http://cmbsb78.anu.edu.au/dumb/ )
Andreas has done an initial GGI port for DUMB and it is now
available from the GGI ftp site. ( see "programs/gdumb" )

For those who haven't noticed, a simple JPEG viewer called
"peggy" is now available on the FTP site also.

We also need more people who are willing to mirror the
GGI ftp site. If you'd be intrested in this, contact
[email protected] for more info.
