A last minute 96k intro for 1 MB STE, hastily scraped together.

Our original entry had long since been submitted. For some reason,
I decided to take another look at the half-started and unused material
recycling bin last night. I blame late night insomnia gremlins. Also
that talk about the party had been going on through the Atari Scene
Discord channel, which brought it front and centre into my limited brain.
Having a free Sunday, the last before the party helped. Also I had a
quick look online to add to the things I had made, came up with some
interesting material.
This one was made with a bog-standard STE in mind. It has been tested
down to 1 megabyte (Hatari) and 4 megabytes (real STE). The performance
reflects the fact there is an 8 MHz cpu involved. Its reasonable to say
that it works, just about. The animations struggle in a gamely fashion
but are recognisable as such. It does run on a Falcon, but will be over
much more quickly, which might be a relief.
It is 'bird themed', which was half unused material and half things I
found in a hurry. It has morphed into a coherent theme and design
surprisingly quickly. We're stark white on black, which works nicely.
After a little bit of checking first with the compo organisers, it is
being submitted as a 96ktro ST and STE category. The combined executable
and data files limbo-dancing comfortably under the 96k limit, with a
little help from Ice Packer.
The running instructions are fairly simple, 1 megabyte or above STE,
8 MHz is quite sufficient, running from medium resolution desktop.
There is occasional switching between medium and low resolution,
nothing extreme, but some modern screens do love to faff around with
updating these changes. Older screens are fine, Hatari definitely should
be.
The graphics and putting together come from the usual guilty parties.
Where there has been borrowed material used, the artist initials have
been left in, when available. The usual apologies fly out to those we
did not know.
We have an unexpected guest musician, namely FieserWolf of Abyss-Connection.
There is a story to go with it too.
We were at a Revision Easter party, some years ago. FieserWolf was set
up nearby with a friend. They had a raucous night. It was still going
on when we headed back to the hotel. It was in one of the quiet hungover
morning periods, before the party started back up again, that he came
to see what we were doing. For some reason I had Music Mon v1.0 running.
FieserWolf indulged his curiosity by making a short tune on it.
This was very enjoyable and all but forgotten, until now. My searching
for an unused and halfway acceptable tune for this intro rediscovered
this nicer than average short tune made by a scene professional. So
it has gone in. Thank you for your Sunday Morning dabblings, these
have come in handy.
Making the whole thing, from opening the laptop, to writing this text,
has taken most of Sunday.
It has been time well spent.
There isn't much more to add, I'm just filling space for the sake of it.
