Today finally my ISP turned up in the person of a knowledgable person, to fix
my internet speed issue. Since having to turn to this provider, there have been
multiple issues, which this speed issue was the last of (until now, that is).
I am paying for a 1Gbit Fiber-to-the-Home connection, but I was only getting
100Mbit. Even though the internet connection functioned, we did not get the
speed that we are paying for. I did some investigating myself, and it seemed
that the so called ONT unit (Optical Network Translator(?)) was only training
to 100Mb on the connection to the router, and not the advertised 2.5Gbit
connection it should provide.
So when the guy (why is it always a guy?) came in, I told him that I suspected
the ONT. AND HE ACTUALLY LISTENED! He promptly got a new ONT from the car,
plopped it in, assigned it, and that was that. It worked full speed directly.
He was in and out in approximately 15 minutes.
I was very happy to get an engineer that actually listened. These people are
very hard to find nowadays.
So I am a happy camper again, and my gopherserver is a bit more snappy like
before. (Not that we need the bandwidth for Gopher, haha!)
