Hello Gophers!

Today my new fiber connection was installed. My old fiber provider company
was sold to a big corporation, and sadly ceased to exist. So i needed a new
internet connection. The old provider was very flexible.
The new one apparently is not.

I am running this gopher server on my home fiber, but the router delivered from
the new provider does not let me do any port forwarding: Strike one.. Then I
also discovered the router does not allow VPN-in to my home network:
Strike two.. aaaand (yes it is really this bad) it also blocks port 5060 for
SIP Internet telephony to a different provider other than themselves: That was
strike three... And the new router is out!

I put back my trusted old Fritzbox, and connected it instead. After some
DDG'ing I found the settings and it works! My Gopher server works, my VPN
works, just not the SIP: the Fritzbox is hardcoded to port 5060. Bummer.

I have ordered a separate VOIP ATA to get around this. My telephone provider
has alternative ports like 5080 (yay!) and I tested from my laptop whether I
could use that port. And that worked.

All in all I would like to have stayed with my old provider, but as always the
good guys get bought out, and the big consumer hating companies step in.

End of rant.. when my ATA arrives tomorrow I will have everything working
again against the will of my petty provider. I win!

Have a nice week all...

Cheers,

Fripster
