You should try and snag a BBC Micro Model B. These were very expanable with
32K rather thasn 16K the Model A came with and it was before the BBC Master.
If you want some ARM technology there's the Acorn Archimedes and even before
the BBC Micro was the Acorn Atom and Acorn Electron. The BBC Micro and
Mastero were also made by Acorn.

For the Spectrum I can't say I've heard of the 1000 but if you're going
retro, ZX Spectrum is the way to go and if you want the cheapest of cheap
then ZX81 (or even ZX80) they came as kits or prebuilt. The ZX81 had 1K of
memory and touch pads. You could get the 16K ram pack which many of us ended
up using sticky tape to stop it wabbing and disrupting an enthralling game
of Mazogs!

It's all coming back to me now... The Dragon 32, Amstrad CPC464, VIC-20,
Orac 1 built by the Tangerine people, Jupiter ACE. There was also the
Apricot VXFT servers. The first 486 micro, but it was MCA and you'd need a
friend to help you lift it, since it came with an inbuilt UPC. At least
nobody could break in and steal it!

Happy collecting.
