"Kissing will be banned!"
A "dummy run" of stage 2 COVID 19 restrictions at a Viaduct nightclub may
give Auckland's LGBT+ community a sign of what the new rules may be at the
likes of Family bar, once public venues are allowed to reopen.
While New Zealand remains at stage 3, the government has an eye on what stage
2 may look like when it comes to bars, pubs and clubs.
The NZ Herald reports that Auckland's top police boss is working with a
Viaduct bar owner who plans on hosting a "dummy run" party with 100 of his
"best friends" when the country moves to alert level 2.
The Covid-19 website says public venues can open at level 2 but they will be
limited to 100 indoors and patrons but remain one metre apart.
Cabinet will decide on whether to move to level 2 or not on May 11. Leo
Molloy plans to host a private function on May 15 with a range of his 'best
friends' - a collection of D list New Zealand 'celebrities' including Brian
and Hannah Tamaki.
According to the NZ Herald, guests at the function will be "temperature
checked at the door and required to supply their names, addresses and phone
numbers. A bouncer will patrol the dance floor ensuring partygoers stand 1m
apart, kissing will be banned and police will do spot checks to make sure
people follow the rules." Molloy is working with Auckland Central Area
Commander Inspector Gary Davey and the liquor licensing agency to ensure the
party can go ahead.
