I just did a search for Devo on YouTube and loaded the "Whip It" video (the
first one in the search results).  The video had some iPhone ad at the
beginning, so I guess it's not just Geico that's advertising in videos there.

YouTube has to make money somehow, so I guess I'm not really surprised.  I've
already seen ads placed on YouTube's pages, and those ads that pop up at the
bottom of YouTube videos when they begin playing (which I find particularly
annoying), and I guess now YouTube is also selling ads at the beginning of
their videos too.

I think the reason why many web sites that provide a service (YouTube, Google,
etc.) are free for us to use is advertising..  Without the ads, they'd probably
charge fees for the end user to pay for using their site.
