Hi Don,

DV> All I wear are white socks.

RH> One of the most respected professors at the college I graduated from
RH> wore white socks--and had a stutter. He taught math, not my favorite
RH> subject, but I had to take a math class so took the basic one he
RH> taught. It was more abstract than the "kitchen math" I use now (both in
RH> the kitchen and calculating cutting for quilts) but I passed, with a
RH> decent grade.

DV>  Hi there Ruth - You must be super smart! I listened to my wife's
DV>  consternation as she was making a log cabin quilt and she got it done
DV>  but it appeared to be math intensive to me. Of course I would have
DV>  problems calculating how to sew a button on!

I wouldn't say super smart, just, having made a good number of quilts,
I've conquered the basics of calculating number and width of strips to
cut, sub cuts needed, etc. I've been sewing since I was 7 years old, so
for decades now (won't say how many-G-), taught it on a one to one basis
different times & places and made anything from curtains to a wedding
gown (plus the dresses for the rest of the party) to a 3 piece suit for
my husband and projects in between.

I'm taking a break from sewing today--made a strawberry pie this morning
and will do a batch of strawberry-rhubarb preserves this afternoon. It's
fresh strawberry season in NC and my husband brought home 4 boxes from
the local farmer's market on Saturday. They have to be used quickly or
will go bad so now we're down to about 1/2 a box--just right for nibbles
over the next few days.

Catch you later,
Ruth
