MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

     Title: Raspado De Moras (Berry Shaved Ice)
Categories: Desserts, Mexican
     Yield: 6 Servings

     6 c  Water
 3 1/2 c  Sugar
   1/4 c  Corn syrup
     1    Vanilla bean; split
          -lengthwise (optional) -OR-
   3/4 ts Pure vanilla extract
          -(optional)
     2 lb Fresh berries
          -(strawberries, blueberries,
          -raspberries, or
          -blackberries) (2 c);
          -coarsely chopped
          Shaved ice

 Combine the water, sugar, and corn syrup in a saucepan. If using the
 vanilla bean, scrape the seeds into the mixture, then add the pod.
 Cook over medium heat, stirring, until the mixture begins to boiland
 the sugar has dissolved.

 Remove from the heat and let cool for 10 minutes. If using vanilla
 extrct, stir it in at this point. Discard the vanilla bean, then stir
 in the berries and let the mixture cool to room temperature. Working
 in batches, transfer the mixture to a blender and blend until pureed,
 but do not strain. Let chill completely.

 For each serving, mound about 1 cup of shaved ice in a serving glass
 or cup. Drizzle 6 to 8 tb of the berry syrup over the ice and serve
 immediately.
