Hi Dave,

DD> Just returned from a few days in hospital. Woke up in mid-air on the
DD> way to the floor. Did the classic 9*1*1 "HELP! I've fallen and I can't
DD> get up!"

RH> Not fun; I presume you had a phone handy or some sort of alert system.

DD> I had my house-mate and his youngest son try to he'p me bac to my
DD> feet. When that produced scant results Dennis picked up the house

Good that they were there but I understand about getting up--not always
the easiest after a fall, even with 2 helpers. Been there, done that.

DD> phone and
DD> did the 9*1*1 trick. I remember the ride to the hospital and getting
DD> unloaded from the bus. My next conscious notice of anything was from
DD> the bed of my room in I.C.U.

I have bits and pieces of memories like that. Do remember, after I was
hit by a car while in college, making sure I kept concious enough to
give out my parent's phone # as it was unlisted. Don't remember anything
else about the ambulance ride but I can blame it on the concussion I
had. (G)

DD> Root cause for the fall was a collapsed lung - something new to me.
DD> The pulmonologists have re-inflated the lung. Nor, just to keep it
so.

RH> Sounds like a pneumothorax. I usually have an atalectasis where
RH> something (usually a broken rib) pushes the lung down from outside.
RH> About the only thing to do then is to wait it out; some days are more
RH> painful than others, same with breaths. Weather has turned cold and wet
RH> so I'm coughing (and grabbing the albuterol) more often.

DD> It was the lower half of the right lung. Once the Foley and the Lasix
DD> did their jobs of clearing liquids from the system it re-inflated
DD> without other intervention.  PHEW!

Good that it went up without problems. I usually have to wait it out,
can take several weeks to re-inflate after the pressure has eased off.

DD> Enjoy the rest of your trip ..........

DD>      8<----- CLIP ----->8

RH> Update--we were in the totallity path so it was quite fascinating to
RH> watch the progress. Got outside before it started and every so often
RH> would look up at the sun (with the saftey glasses). Temps definatly
RH> cooled off as it progressed. Steve was able to link in with a group of
RH> ham operators in western US, I think Wyoming and Utah, plus other areas
RH> so gave them progress reports. After it was over we made lunch, then
RH> took the girls to meet up with their parents. Spent a quiet day in camp
RH> on Sunday, then hit the road on Monday. We stopped in Frankfort, KY for
RH> some Ale 8 Zero soda and Rebecca Ruth's chocolates, spending the night
RH> in a Cracker Barrel parking lot in Beckley, WVA. Home, with probably 3
RH> loads of laundry tomorrow.

DD> I've done both solar and lunar totalities. I much prefer the lunar
DD> guys.

Same here; I remember seeing one in the winter years ago, think I was a
pre teen. It was a clear, cold night so I didn't stay outside that long.
BTW, got home yesterday with 6,220 more miles on the truck. Had the
70,000 servicing in UT at the Ford dealership our grandson works at.

DD>       Title: Lunar Eclipse Salad

With moon pies for dessert? (G)
