Hello Dave,
DD> 28 June 1969 - GAY RIGHTS MOVEMENT BEGINS AT THE STONEWALL INN: Patrons of a
DD> Greenwich Village gay bar have had enough of police harassment and they
DD> fight back when another raid begins at the Stonewall Inn. The ensuing riot
DD> and uprising will galvanize the gay community across America and be marked
DD> as the start of the gay civil rights movement.
BULL FUCKING SHIT!
For generations, New Orleans has been known as a welcoming, inclusive
destination for all. Including gays and lesbians. Ever been to the
French Quarter? I have. Many times. So have many others. Of all colors
and stripes, regardless of sexual orientation.
This past month, the city of New Orleans honored the victims and
families of the 1973 Upstairs Lounge arson. Dozens of innocent people
were killed in that fire, along with many others scarred for life.
This was one of the most tragic days ever in the French Quarter,
one of the worst crimes ever against the LGBTQ+ community.
Please do not tell me the gay rights movement began at the Stonewall
Inn, a gay bar in Greenwich Village. This is clearly not true, as
nobody died that day, and nobody else scarred for life. You did not
see victims of a fire started by an arsonist being carted into Charity
Hospital, some of them dead and others dying. You did not see a priest
on the second floor of the bar in flames with his hands on the bars
of the outside window, being trapped inside. What a horrible sight
to see. A priest, there to minister to the gays and lesbians inside,
being a victim himself. Along with those who perished.
Have you ever experienced the smell of death? The sight of rotting
flesh is bad enough. The smell is far worse. A smell one can never
forget. And the sounds. The sounds of men and women screaming as
they are rolled in on carts, not even being able to tell if they
are men or they are women.
Travel unites. It is a force for good.
According to SAP CONCUR, 97% of the LGBTQs community are worried
about their safety and discrimination when traveling.
And you, Dave Drum, have the gall to say the gay rights movement
began at the Stonewall Inn, in Greenwich Village. You are ignorant,
to say the least.
DD> As was common for American gay bars at the time, the Stonewall Inn was owned
DD> by the Mafia.
So now you make this out to be a hit piece suggesting gays and
lesbians inside deserved to die.
ESAD. That is what you, Dave Drum, is telling the LGBTQ community.
Why am I not surprised?
[..]
DD> A year after the uprising, to mark the anniversary on June 28, 1970, the
DD> first gay pride marches took place in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and
DD> San Francisco. Within a few years, gay rights organizations were founded
DD> across the US and the world. Today, LGBT Pride events are held annually
DD> worldwide in June in honor of the Stonewall riots.
Donald Trump doesn't care.
MAGA nutjobs don't care.
Dave Drum doesn't care.
Sean Dennis doesn't care.
Mike Powell doesn't care.
A lot of other folks don't care.
If they did, they would join the community.
Am I right? Or am I wrong?
Please. Prove me wrong. I dare you.
No wonder almost nobody in the LGBTQ+ community feels safe anywhere.
For Life,
Lee
