19 January 1920 - ASIAN SUGAR WORKERS STRIKE IN HAWAII: Filipino workers
walk out of a sugar plantation in the territory of Hawaii after their
demands -- including a raise to $1.25 a day -- aren't met. Soon joined
by Japanese workers, they'll put up an ultimately unsuccessful six-month
fight -- setting the stage for even bigger strikes throughout the early
20th century.
