12 lg Cabbage leaves
2 ts Salt
1 c Cooked rice
1 Egg
1 tb Vegetable oil
1 tb Sugar
1 tb Lemon juice or vinegar
1 1/4 lb Ground beef
1/2 ts Pepper
1 sm Onion; chopped
1/2 ts Thyme
2 cn Tomato paste; (8 oz each)
1/4 c Water
Cover cabbage leaves with boiling water and let stand for 5 minutes or
until limp. Drain the leaves. Combined the ground beef, salt, pepper,
rice, onion, egg, and thyme. Place equal portions of the meat mixture
in the center of each leaf. Fold the sides of each leaf over the
meat. Brown in hot vegetable oil in a very large skillet. Pour in
tomato paste combined with sugar, water, and lemon juice. Simmer or
bake 30-45 minutes.
