05 January 1933 - GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE BUILDING BEGINS: Construction
officially starts on the iconic San Francisco Bay span when 3.25 million
cubic feet of soil is excavated to make way for the bridge's anchorages.
The bridge will open to traffic four years later, in May 1937.

     Title: Golden Gate Gouda Mushroom Soup
Categories: Poultry, Wine, Dairy, Mushrooms, Cheese
     Yield: 6 Servings

   1/2 c  Butter; in cubes
   1/2 c  A-P flour
   1/2 ts Pepper
   1/2 ts Ground allspice
     1 qt Chicken broth
   1/2 c  Sherry
   1/2 c  Heavy whipping cream
   1/2 lb Sliced fresh mushrooms
     4 cl Garlic; minced
     2 c  Shredded smoked Gouda cheese
          Chives & smoked paprika

 In a large saucepan, melt butter. Stir in the flour,
 pepper and allspice until smooth; gradually add the
 broth, sherry and cream. Bring to a boil. Add mushrooms
 and garlic. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 5-6
 minutes or until mushrooms are tender.

 Add cheese; cook and stir until melted. Garnish servings
 with chives and paprika.
