Alberta Springs 10 year old Canadian rye whisky
Premium priced Gibson's Finest Venerable 18 year old Canadian rye
whisky is my favourite special treat, gift and celebration sipping
whisky while Alberta Springs 10 yr is my favourite every day tipple.
It's not really an economy bottom shelf whisky. Rather, it's a good
sipping whisky sold at an incredibly attractive price, so one
doesn't feel guilty using it in whisky forward cocktails like
Manhattans and Old Fashioneds.
It's rated as the best in its price range by almost every single
reviewer out there. So I was upset when it disappeared from the
shelves at both my local stores. Then I read that it had become so
popular that their entire year's production had been sold out in
eight months and they refused to market any 9 year old before it was
ready.
Well it's back and in this era of post-Covid corporate price gouging
coupled with some very real inflationary pressures it's still priced
at $32 the same as before (and just $24 in Alberta), so I am a happy
camper once again. Since it will probably sell out even quicker this
year I am tempted to splurge and buy a whole case of it while I can.
If any of my family is travelling here in the near future by road
I'll e-transfer them some funds and have them get a case for me in
Alberta!
It's from a company called from Alberta Distillers Limited. It's a
blend of rye and corn so sweeter than straight rye which is quite
spicy and also a tad biter. They also make Alberta Premium which is
100% rye and a good wheat vodka called Alberta Pure.
Cheers
Jim
