Hi Dave,
RH> not want to pay to play. We've come across some gems of hole in the
RH> wall places listed among the ubiquitous chains. Also got a great
RH> referral once when we stopped for gas at a small station in Alabama.
DD> I pretty much blow right past the Interstate Food/Lodging/Fuel signs.
They're quite useful, especially the fuel ones. We also use Gas Buddy
and RV Parky, both apps on our phones, for fuel prices and places to
stay.
DD> Illinois charges a one-time fee of U$100 to post an "off-ramp" sign
DD> for a business - which works out to U$200 per exit (one each
DD> direction). It's good advertising I suppose but the only ones I pay
DD> much mind are the gas station ones ... if the tank is getting down.
We go thru more gas when towing so have to keep an eye out for places to
fill. We can get a 5 cent/gallon discount at Flying J or Pilot thru our
Good Sam's membership, also have both Costco and Sam's Club memberships
that save a bit on gas. Still spent over $2,000. on fuel on the trip we
made out west in May/June, at the peak of fuel prices but we had to go
then.
DD> If I'm looking for food I check Trip Advisor. Found several local gems
DD> that way. And been warned off of some others. Bv)=
DD> TA works for lodging, too. Been warned off of some places that looked
DD> acceptable and in my price range. And, as with the restaurants, found
DD> some Mom & Pop/Family run places that were outstanding.
We use the above mentioned. Found several nice little parks on the
spring trip, one city park in OK even had a free dump station.
DD> I hope your slip/trip/fall wounds are healing apace. The fingers can
DD> mostly be worked around. But that knee ........ owtch!
Everything is in the beginning stage of healing. I'm not hurting as bad
as I was initially and figuring out how to get around better. A neighbor
is bringing supper over tonight so Steve won't have to cook.(G)
