Hi Dale,

RH> My parents used to rub us with cider vinegar when we got sunburned.
RH> Don't know which was worse, the burn or smelling like vinegar. (G)

DS> That was my Mother's thing as well.  It worked to help cut down on the
DS> blistering.  I'm not sure whether she did it because of medical
DS> statements (she was a nurse) or because of folklore.

RH> I'd guess it's a folklore remedy. Neither of my parents, nor their
RH> parents had any medical training.

DS> Folklore or not, it worked.

Yes, but it was good that most often oour sunburns happened during
summer vacation. Didn't want to go to school smelling like vinegar. (G)
Did get a sun burn one year during spring break but it was pretty well
into the peeling stage by the time school resumed.

I just picked up a quart of buttermilk at Wegman's this afternoon. The
Okracoke Fig Cake recipe calls for it, not soured milk and we've still
got a lot of figs so...........
