RH> My parents used to rub us with cider vinegar when we got sunburned.
RH> Don't know which was worse, the burn or smelling like vinegar. (G)

That was my Mother's thing as well.  It worked to help cut down on the
blistering.  I'm not sure whether she did it because of medical
statements (she was a nurse) or because of folklore.

RH> I like licorice and cilantro in small amounts but ginger snaps and egg
RH> nog in much larger quantities. (They go well together.) Buttermilk is
RH> good for baking but I'd just as soon not drink it. (G)

Gail is the same as you on buttermilk, maybe even worse.  She says her
throat clampts shut at just the thought of it, but she did use it in
bakeing (albeit buttermilk powder).  I am sort of fond of buttermilk.

This might make a decent recipe for you to make for some of your church
events.  You might even keep a very small piece for yourself:-}}

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

     Title: Cinnamon Caramel Swirl Bars
Categories: Tested, Dessert, Xmas
     Yield: 24 Bars

 1 1/2 c  Flour
     2 ts Baking powder
     2 ts Ground cinnamon
   1/4 ts Salt
 1 1/2 c  Packed brown sugar
   1/2 c  Butter, melted
     2 lg Eggs
     1 tb Vanilla
     1 c  Slightly copped pecans
1 pk 14 oz caramels, unwrapped
   1/4 c  Milk

Preheat oven to 350 (convection will show 325)

Mix flour, baking powder, cinnamon and salt.  Set aside.  Mix brown
sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla and pecans in large bowl until well
blended.  Add flour mixture, mix well.

Reserve one cup of batter. Spread remaining batter into lightly
greased foil lined 13 x 9 inch baking pan. (Used telfon foil to
totally cover bottom and side of baking dish) Did not grease this!!

Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes. (next time bake 25 minutes to
 make bar more crisp.

Start melting caramels 5 minutes after placing pan in oven. (I used a
plastic 3 cup measuring cup - worked fine). Microwave on HIGH 2 or 3
minutes OR until caramels are completely melted.  Stir after each
 minute.

Cool 10 minutes or more until mixture has gotten slightly thick.
Think enough to pour and then spread.  Too runny mixture runs all
over bar to the sides of the baking dish.

Pour over partially baked cookie. (Make sure caramel is thick enough
that it does not run to the side of the baking dish - caramel should
be thick enough to spread.) Spread caramel to within 1/2 inch of edge
 of cookie bar.

Drop reserved one cup of batter by spoonfuls over caramel layer.  Cut
through batter with a knife several times to get a marbel effect.

Bake another 15 - 20 minutes OR until center is set. (might bake
another 5 minutes to crisp up the final results of the bar)

Cool in pan on wire rack.  Lift from pan with foil.  Cut into bars.

Makes 24 servings (Make 48 servings ) or smaller.

From Food Netrwork Magazine - McCormic ad.

Testing - maybe a good xmas choice.

Tested 3/28/15 - will do again.  Nice sweet bar cookie. Very rich.
Make small pieces to put into xmas cookie tin. (If bar is too chewy -
place in seperate cookie tin or everything in the tin will get soft)
